At its heart is the 3+3+2 (tresillo) rhythm, complemented by a bass drum in 4/4 time ... To this day, elements of the song's accompaniment track are found in over 80% of all reggaeton productions.
If that's not dumbed down music, I'm not sure what is
That's more dumbed down than rock's standard 4/4? C'mon man.

(To be fair, I have the same basic criticism about reggae itself)
Go listen to the first song he did. It sounded as generic as possible. That's what happens when there's really no melody to differentiate.
Despacito is a good example of a reggaeton adjacent song that actually does have an interesting melody.
ETA: You do bring up an interesting point that makes sense on the surface. But I think the difference must be that 4/4 doesn't rely so much on the beat itself to be primary facet of the song. Same with reggae.

The two aren’t comparable. In reggaeton the drums are the music. In rock, it’s one of many elements.

That's spot-on. Not a minute into Bunny's set, I turned to my wife and said, "Now I'm craving Tio Jave's."

You could say this about country music as well.
And Kid Rock, honestly.

Yea. Saying Reggaeton sucks is not a defense of other types of music. There is plenty of shitty music to go around.

Here’s the deal with Bad Bunny: 18-35 year old women love him and hate football, so he’s how the NFL got more receptive eyes for the ads.
Most women who love football watched Kid Rock. Maximum ads for all. Everyone wins.

That's the thing, he was just your run of the mill Hispanic rapper.
He then starts wearing dresses and gets the Superbowl show.

This is basically the argument we are having.

No, the drums drive a rhythm which is a huge part of Latin music. Typically layered and complex. In rock, melody drives the sound more. One thing I can agree with you on is that this modern reggaeton is driven by a crappy drum machine sound more than an actual musician but that's par for the course in pop music.

I listened to his top song on Spotify as I had never heard of this fellow and wanted to see what all of the hoopla is about. Has over 1 Billion streams. I made it through about 15 seconds. Dear Lord that's some irritating racket!

He did a US stadium tour in 2022. He was not some run of the mill rapper.

Yea. Saying Reggaeton sucks is not a defense of other types of music.
This was like back ground music in a b-grade movie. There was nothing to move you because it was played to the wrong crowd. They were held captive and didn't know why.

Well, with the tens of millions of illegals Biden let in, that's a large fanbase.

Reggaeton is...and has always been...about the shittiest genre there is. It's entirely unlistenable.
I disagree, but totally get how it's not everyone's thing. The genre trending more to trap beats is a way better direction.

Nothing cutting edge or inventive.
Talking about Bad Bunny specifically this isn't true. The albums Un Verano Sin Ti and DtMF are very much innovative and different than standard reggaeton. DtMF specifically with the sampling of classic salsa and incorporation of other Puerto Rican genres is why it's so massively successful.
Before those albums he had some songs I liked, but yeah he was no different than some of the other trendy artists at the time (Anuel AA, Jhayco, Bryant Myers, J Balvin, etc).
