Built to Spill is probably my favorite band ever. Been listening to their whole catalogue a bunch this week in anticipation of their new album (which sounds really good on first listens).

Top 5 Built to Spill songs:

1. Carry the Zero
2. Kicked in the Sun
3. Randy Described Eternity
4. Goin Against Your Mind
5. Made Up Dreams

The worst song on Perfect From Now On (whatever that is) is better than the worst song on any other album.

Great selections. They really don't get the credit they deserve.

Impossible to choose. The new album is good, but not great. It's all songs I've heard before at live shows and I enjoy it but there is no great song on there

Goin’ Against Your Mind.

Saw them play in Bham. Never heard a band play so tight and together.

Really like carry the zero. For years, every time it came on I would start singing and then have yo go look up who it is. I've learned their sound now and can usually pick out their songs. Love his voice!

According to Spotify, I also like Strange and Nowhere Nothin' frickup

I've always liked your taste in music seaward - I'll give their new album a listen. I haven't really dug into their catalog before, what's your favorite album?

Perfect From Now On. Top 3-5 album all-time for me.

Keep It Like a Secret is also fantastic and some people’s favorite (it has Carry the Zero). Probably a little more accessible than PFNO.

You in Reverse and There is Nothing Wrong with Love would be 3 and 4 for me.

1. Made Up Dreams
2. Kicked it in the Sun
3. Car
4. The Plan
5. Carry the Zero

But yeah, its impossible. I shuffled their entire discography on a jog yesterday. Rediscovered so much.

Honorable mention should go to his entire solo album, "Now You Know". The song "Lift" might be in my all time top 5 from any band. The guitar solo just takes you away, not unlike the solo on "Car".

Doug's approach to guitar is insane. Ya'll know he only even has his middle strat pickup wired. I'm like most and barely touch my middle pickup (in the rare instances I reach for a strat).

2-5 are always in flux, but #1 will probably always be Randy Described Eternity.

New album is underwhelming. It feels like There Is No Enemy, which is my least favorite BTS album.

As far as favorites...Carry the Zero will always be #1.

when is this?

As for my favorites, I can't really rank them but for sure it's made up of these:

the plan
sidewalk
bad light
time trap
stop the show
out of site

I'm a basic bitch in that I've really only ever gravitated towards KILAS/PFNO and haven't really fallen for any of their other stuff that I've heard.

Well, when I fly, and I hate takeoffs, I listen to Randy Describes Eternity and it soothes my anxiety. So maybe that's my favorite.

Cortez and Virginia Reel Around the Fountain are a powerhouse combo on the live album.

Life's a Dream (especially around the 2:50 mark)
Carry the Zero
Living Zoo
Liar

I had tickets to go see them in Nashville right before the tornado took out the venue and then Covid hit. Would love to see them one day.
