I forgot about Skid row and ratt, those are great ones too. Not a huge fan of Tesla though for some reason.

Ratt is great too. I’m assuming no one has mentioned Van Halen because they don’t count for some reason? If they count, then they’re number one and GNR is number 2, but I don’t really consider either one hair metal.

Saw them with Bad Company (sans Paul Rogers) at UNO Lakefront Arena years ago. My ears hurt for two weeks after that concert. But Nugent by himself was worth the price of admission.

I spent my teenage years in the eighties. It's hard to say which band is best, that could mean something different to everybody.
Motley Crue was probably my favorite at the time. Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind" is tremendous. The same with Operation Mindcrime. Warrant gets too much crap for Cherry Pie, which Janie Lane wrote in about ten minutes, when the rest of their stuff is excellent and underrated. Is Megadeth a hair band? Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are thrash masterpieces. Is Ozzy considered a hair band? I still listen to a bunch of bands from that era, so I can't call it.

Ratt

I remember back in the early 2000's there were two versions of Ratt touring around and both were suing the shite out of each other for the rights to the band name. I ended up seeing the Ratt featuring Stephen Pearcy version. Fast forward about 15 years later and there were again two versions of Ratt touring around and suing the shite out of each other, only this time the other guys were suing Warren D'Martini and he was counter suing.

Also saw the Geoff Tate version of Queensryche a few years back when there was two versions of that band touring around and suing the shite out of each other.

Queensryche really doesn't fit in that genre.

Rat is my choice

Cinderella would like a word with you. Bassist Eric Brittingham was voted as having the best hair by the other "hair bands" back in the day.

Cinderella was lumped in with the hair bands but were actually more blues based than the rest of them.

The sleaze bands were great:
Early GnR
LA Guns
Faster Pussycat
