Bad Religion is so much better when Brett Gurewitz is in the fold... specifically in the songwriting department...

Creedence Clearwater Revival.

According to John Fogerty, he wasn't so much aked to leave as he was asked to step back and allow the other band members to do more of the writing. So he stepped all the way back to give them a chance and they ended up producing the worst album of their careers. They were never the same.
That's his story

The other two say the exact opposite: that JF adamantly insisted that each do a third of the singing and writing. Wiki:
quote:

According to Cook and Clifford, it was John Fogerty's idea for all of the remaining members to contribute an equal number of new songs, despite their reservations. They believed he was bitter over Tom Fogerty's departure and their own requests to have additional say in the group's musical decisions, and that he was looking for an excuse to break up CCR to pursue a solo career. When Clifford and Cook at first demurred at the idea of having to supply two-thirds of the album's material themselves, they have said John Fogerty threatened to quit the band, and that, when they agreed, he refused to contribute any vocals or instrumentation to their songs, except for guitar.
Cook and Clifford were not fools. They understood Fogerty was the CCR meal ticket.

Weezer, Matt Sharp. He had to have reined in Rivers’ worst impulses.

Dream Theater lost a little something when Kevin Moore left.

Felt like Dream Theater was actually “dreamy” when Kevin Moore was there. When Ruddess joined, they went all in on progressive metal.

When Dr. Hook dropped & The Medicine Show from their name they were not the same.

The Beach Boys without Dennis Wilson seemed hollow.

Jan & Dean without Jan.

The Ramones without Dee Dee.
