I got several
Met and hung with Henry Rollins after a Black Flag show
Met Perry Ferrell once when he was originally in Janes Addiction in the 90's
Played pool with some of the guys in REM: Mills, Bill Berry, and Peter Buck after a show. Met Peter Buck another time in a bar.
Talked to Natalie Merchant as well when 10,000 Maniacs were a thing. Very shy and kind of strange.
Met Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth. He was kind of a dick as you would expect.
Met a couple of the guys in the Grateful Dead over the years: Bob Weir, Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart. Weir and Lesh were after a show, Kreutzmann on vacation, and Mickey Hart when he was doing his solo Planet Drum thing.
Was a plane in first class from Burbank to DFW with Smokey Robinson.

I had the pleasure of meeting Geddy Lee a few years ago. Very humble, very polite. I am sure I came off like a tool.

Shared an evening around a fire swapping tall tales with Vassar Clements. He showed up a day early to check out a music festival and sat the night with us smoking that corn cob pipe. Quite the story teller with a genuine touch of everyday.
John Hartford's band said they'd stay up with us one night as long as the fire was going... big group we jammed til day light. Had met John a couple other times just howdies and a few one liners. Longest was sharing a beer at a save the river festival. You never know, but I got to thinking that he might be recognizing me as non-clingy, because he gave me and a friend a shout out (about being from Alabama) from a Merle Fest stage one night.
Rescued Bela Fleck from an over adamant friend of mine, he was rummaging through the crowd incognito, and a long time acquaintance had him holed up. He seemed to really appreciate it.
Roland White at a music festival (famous brother to Clarence) gave me a good talk about starting to play. We're sharing a bench and up comes Cody Kilby of 'Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder' and 'The Travelin' McCourys' who also offered some pointers (I was so green).
Smoking cigarettes with Roy Husky Junior outside the Ryman. Was a long night, a benefit, and the second time he saw us two he came over like old friends. Shame he later passed away from lung cancer.
Both Norman and Nancy Blake. The later whom I shared a cooler top and other things. She just popped up out of no-where and sat down for about 2 hours. The promoter of the show told her to go to the end of that trail and she could hang out til dark. Later met Tony Rice and Norman at another show but mostly was making sure they didn't need anything. Same with Sam Bush.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at a bar in Colorado right before they got up on stage unannounced. They were telling everyone (local/friends) about their Russian Tour over beers and I got included by default. Southern accent helped again.
Stopped the Nashville Bluegrass Band bus one night. It was pretty late, other side of midnight after a show, and their lights never came on. No brakes or running lights just head lights. So I made them stop after several attempts. When they found out I was concerned, about them getting stopped by the law, they all got off the bus and shook my hand. It was the perfect ending.

At lunch at counter with Trent Reznor of nine inch nails and his extremely gorgeous girlfriend at some place on magazine st in mid 90’s
The band used to produce music and sounds across the street on magazine.
I think the restaurant was happy budah

The Bouda Belly. At least that was its name at some point. My buddy ran into him there once as well

I've hung out with dredg on multiple occasions. Ran into Drew in Shreveport before their show, and he asked if he could grab a CD to listen to in my car. He ran inside and came back holding the final mixes of The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion to listen to before the band approved sending it for mastering. He also asked us to play my friend's album for him and gave his approval. That was a cool experience.

I always thought Neal Peart had the right idea about meeting fans.
To each his own. I've met lots of artists who were eager to befriend fans. Chi Cheng was a super nice guy who couldn't be happier to talk to us. I've also known a few guys from successful bands who just had no interest in it. They were never rude or anything. They just don't engage like other. I'm a bit of an introvert, so I get it.

Forgot about the Who...early 70's in BR..drove them around a couple of days..took Townshend to Hoppers on Highland..very nice and polite..Daltry very personable..had a run in the Moon at the hotel bar for asking if he was going to start selling the Who t shirt like he was wearing..quite insulting at that time of no merch being sold...

I think this is my only famous musician story.
Nadirah Shakoor (formerly of Arrested Development and now one of Jimmy Buffett's backup singers) recorded an album in 2008 covering some of Buffett's songs and a few others. At Jimmy's tour stop in Atlanta in 2009, she did a small side stage performance a few hours before the main show, with various Coral Reefers joining her for a song or two.
After he finished his stint on stage, Mac McAnally came down and was talking to a few folks in the crowd. Got to shake his hand, talk to him about his small solo shows at places around Atlanta, etc.

He wasn't a big star but I hung out quite a bit with "Brail Blues Daddy"- Bryan Lee. Him and his wife were best friends with my old neighbor in Illinois and Bryan and his band played in our backyards pretty often. Brian and his rythym guitarist - Brent Johnson actually tutored my son on guitar when he was a wee lad.
Anyway Bryan was an absolute great person. We miss him a lot. So was Brent and John.

A couple ones but not my favorites..
in college, Dave Matthews Band always played at VT...hung out and drank in my room a couple times as it was the closest to the stage...only thing I remember was that they always pulled crowds and Dave at the time drank a lot of Jack Daniels
While living in Korea in the 90s, after the Scorpions concert went to the Westin after and all were in their drinking pitchers of beer and eating..I think I was the only one in there who knew who they were. Went over had a few beers and chatted them up...great guys..
Dave Grohl...couple times but my two favorites were after a long flight back from Europe while waiting for my luggage at Dulles there was Dave Grohl (this was the early 2010s) and I said hello and he said he was waiting to pick up his mom but chatted while he waited...a couple years later in Chicago he was just out for a walk the day of the concert in a neighborhood where my friend lived and he was just as chill as always..
Drank with the Turnpike Troubadours a few times...as always RC is the best

Got a of them...
1. Went it see Mojo Nixon in Atlanta in 1996. He was drinking at the bar before the opening act came on. Pulled up a stool next to him and bullshitted for a few minutes. Cool dude.knitted
2. Not exactly hanging out with, but in 1975 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were playing in New Orleans. They had a softball game at the butterfly against a team of local DJs. I got to take a few pics with Bruce and throw the softball around for a few minutes with him and the boys.

this was from a couple years back. my wife and i have a special connection with this band as we saw them in 2010 on our first date and our song "clone" was played in Rockefeller Center when i proposed.
Mrs CAD looks like she could be part of the band.

quote:After opening for The Ramones, he came out in front of the stage just like a regular fan and just ended up right next to me. There was a bit of slamming going on, and he took it to the extreme. He would point out someone to me before he would level the guy. Was kinda shitty, but funny in a way.
An inebriated Fred (Dash Riprock)
One of my best friends in school(roommate at the time) was best friends with Joel Rundle. They were both friends with Kevin Griffin. Cary's(Original drummer) sister was the girlfriend of another friend of mine, so with all that, Joel, Kevin, Cary and Todd would be at our apartment often. When Kevin quit Murphy's to devote time to the band, I took his spot. He helped me a bit getting acquainted with the equipment.

Played pool with Jani Lane at the Tiger way back in the day. I think he either knew the owner or something.
I was also a staple at the Varsity so I got to meet a lot of bands before they really hit. I met Brandon Boyd from Incubus, Serj from System of a Down, 2 Skinny J's and others that I forget. Met Fred Durst at Family Values as he played Sega dreamcast on the big screen pre-show.
I also met Chino from Deftones at the Incubus/Deftones show in NO a few years ago. The story that I tell most, is my wife and I went to see Kottonmouth Kings in NO at the House of Blues and the opening band blew my mind. After, I approached both singers in my drunken state to MAKE sure they KNEW that I KNEW they were going to blow up and be the biggest band in the world. Both of them were so nice and acted interested in shooting the shite so I bought both of them drinks. The band was Linkin Park and the guys were Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington.
