My son and I actually know Bruce Hornsby. We go to the Boo Williams AAU complex in Hampton, VA every year to watch the top HS basketball players play in front of ALL the major HCs in college basketball.
We're always decked out in our LSU gear, and Bruce's son played for LSU a few years back. We struck up a conversation, and for several years now, we watch the games over there with him.
We don't know him outside of that setting, but he's REALLY a nice guy. And if you didn't know who he was, you would never have a clue how famous he is.
That's cool. There's an exert in a Dead book that I read(I think it was Steve Parish's) along the lines of Bruce's idea of pre show fun being finding the nearest public bball court and playing pickup games, and it being a whole lot different than the rest of the band's pre show actives.

I was at a Southern Culture On The Skids Show at Zydeco's in Birmingham early 2000's and got to meet and chat with Rick Miller & Mary Huff for a while after the show. Very cool people
If you ever get a chance to see them in concert, check it out. One of the most entertaining shows you'll ever see.
Daddy was a preacher but momma was a go-go girl

BJ from American Aquarium always hangs out and talks to everybody after every show. He’s a good dude.

Now that’s the voice of an angel for sure.
Absolutely. I watched both of the Devin Townsend Project shows with her on vocals. Her and Devin were the catalyst to me buying a ticket for the cruise. When they announced the two of them were going to be onboard, I decided I had to see them together. Before their announcement, I was leaning towards not going. I also watched a solo set of hers in one of the lounges. Got a couple photos with her afterward. She's very sweet.

I’ve hung out with Pearcy of Ratt, Rob Van Winkle for a week, Pat Green a couple times and Heath of Spank the Monkey, which is my favorite.

Met a few of the guys from Lamb of God in Memphis before a show. Randy was clearly hungover and not in a good mood. He told everyone following him he just wanted to go take a shite. Chris was very nice. Just ran across him on his bike riding around Beale Street.
Met Trevor Strnad in the crowd at a show in NOLA. And met Brian a few times and got a few pics. Wish I still had the picture I took with Trevor.
Phil Anselmo, but it was just a tent signing thing.

Back stage after a concert with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for about an hour many years ago. They were very friendly and laid back.
The “spread” was just a cooler of beer and a few snacks.

after seeing siouxsie & the banshees at the unicorn in houston in 1991 i went to my favorite watering hole (emos) and was like the only person in the bar as this was the middle of the week...until siouxsie walked in with her band and literally sat down on the bar stool next to me. SHE HAD THE WHOLE BAR TO SIT AT AND SHE SAT NEXT TO ME :SWOON:
got to hang out with and chat with her for a solid hour during her prime and was a ridiculously huge fan at the time. i was a little toasty so i asked her to marry me.
bonus: budgie photo bomb

Smoked a blunt and drank some Paradise Parks with the Amazons and my friends a few years ago in January 2020, was one of my highlights for 2020 other than LSU winning. As a 21 year old it was amazing.
This was their first American tour and we were the 5th concert, and my group of 8 was the first to know every song of theirs and lead singer acknowledged it mid concert and came and shotgunned a beer midsong after hoping off stage to guitar solo between our entire friend group. Don’t know how to post photos but saw them at HOB in NOLA

Hello from Texas.
I was searching different music boards to find like minded people and found this one. I thought I would drop my first post here.
One of my first jobs was at a Hollywood Video in one of the worst parts of Houston near West Bellfort and Fondren.
Richard Shaw (aka: Bushwick Bill) from the Geto Boys came in and rented some videos one afternoon.
We talked for about an hour or so I guess and then I was invited to lunch with the band. They took me to Luby's.
Not my favorite singer or band. Just the only musician/s I've ever met in public.

Partied with Rick Derringer and band at their hotel in early-mid 80's. A friend knew the drummer.
I saw a ton of bands at resorts I worked at in Tempe/Scottsdale.
Gene Simmons is an absolute prick as is Weird Al Yankovick

I met Billy Joel's original band from the 70's-80's after a show in Miami several years ago.
They were Russell Javors, Liberty DeVitto and Richie Canatta. They were all nice dudes who spent their time chatting with fans and happily signing autographs.
Russ was the friendliest who took the time with me to have a conversation of stories when he used to tour with Billy back in the day.

I was in the valet/ pass through lane downstairs underneath Harrahs Las Vegas the day of a Black Crowes show that night. Windows down who walks right up but Chris Robinson and Kate Hudson. He was getting into the car next to me but we had made eye contact his whole walk over. He said I like your truck and I said I like your music. He asked if I was going to the show and I said of course. Was hoping for a miracle backstage pass or dinner invite but alas, no. So that was my brush with greatness. My friend I was with called that my Chris Robinson edition Dodge Ram from then on

No cool stories from me, but my best friend who was a musician back in the day (played in Dark August and was in the original Razor White with Phil Anselmo) just recently recounted this story to me...
The night before Dio played in New Orleans, ny friend walks into a bar in the Quarter and sees this tiny little long haired guy sitting alone at the bar - it’s Ronnie James Dio. He didn’t want to be a bother but just walked up and told him he’s a huge fan of his music. Dio invited him to have a seat and sat there talking with him about music and life in general for well over an hour. Put him on the guest list for a couple backstage passes, and also told him he wanted to hear from him after the concert for an honest review of the show. My buddy said he was one of the nicest people he’s ever met.

Met him in Lafayette at Mother's Mantle. He sat down with my wife and I and we talked about the Mar-Y-Sol Pop Festival and other things.
Super friendly.

I've met most of The Mars Volta, sans Cedric. Hung out with them backstage for a little while. They were all pretty nice / friendly.
I met Doug Martsch of Built to Spill after a SXSW show. He was just by himself outside the venue so I said Hi and talked for a few minutes. Also a nice dude.
I've played Ultimate Frisbee with the lead singer of Dynamite Hack several times. Kind of a joke band as their only big hit was the cover of Boyz in the Hood.

Met one of my all-time favorites, the Black Crowes, at the Gold Club in Atlanta before it was shut down by the feds
Al Bell is actually an acquaintance of mine because his nephew is a friend - great guy and historic Arkansan.
Not a big fan of The Outfield, but once drove Tony Lewis in my truck to a Memphis ghetto convenience store so he could buy cigarettes before a small venue show.
Stayed in a hotel while Old Crow Medicine Show was there. They were weird and nerdy, but not bad guys.

Watched the Holyfield Vs Foreman fight in 1991 in a hotel room in Houston with Suicidal Tendencies after they opened for Queensryche.
