About 15 years ago, a buddy of mine introduced me to an Americana-ish band called Reckless Kelly. We rode up to Memphis from central MS to catch a concert. Chatted with them briefly before the show (they were headed out the venue to go get an early dinner/late lunch as we were going to get tickets), and also hung out with them for an hour or two after the show just shooting the shite. Has anyone else had a great experience with a group/singer that you really enjoyed? Share some experiences, if you don’t mind.

Met R.E.M. after their show at the Saenger Theater in '85. Mike Mills was talkative and affable. Michael Stipe was busy pretending to be shy and asking some of his people if they were going to "go out" soon.

An inebriated Fred (Dash Riprock) glared at me after a show outside The Chimes in '86. We met him years later at another show.

Met Lloyd Cole. He seemed as depressed as he sounds.

I've become friends with a guy in Centro-matic, who were one of my favorite bands before I knew him. He's a nerdy introvert though so no stories to tell. And I e hung out with a few well known musicians because of my brother but nothing crazy has ever gone down.

not necessarily my favorite performer, but had a wild night out with Nick Cave, which included heading backstage to a George Clinton concert (Goodfellas Copa Style)

that same weekend played some hoops with the Beasties and watched the Pumpkins from the side of the stage.

Solid weekend for a 21 Y.O.

Back around 78 I went to a ELO concert at LSU Assembly Center. Was throwing frisbee at the Parade Grounds earlier that afternoon. Later at the concert, my girlfriend said "thats the guy we were throwing frisbee with". It was Jeff Lynne.

Drank beer and homemade moonshine with some of Toby Keith's band. Toby was sleeping in the buss.

Thats all I got

No but I rode on the original drifters tour bus,( Got picked up on side of the road with their white guy guitarist haha) I think their were only 2 original out of the group at that time and while back stage one asked me if I could get them some weed so I had a friend bring a sack up there for them. Besides meeting Houser, that’s all I got.

I shot pool with members of the E Street Band when they were in BR for "The River" tour. They were actually really cool guys. Too bad Bruce has become a complete shithead.

I hung out with Bert McCracken of The Used once at a Chipotle, he was pretty chill.

I also had a dope time on a couple of occasions hanging out with the members of Hawthorne Heights.

I met and had beers with Jimmy Page. This was in the early 80's when he was in the Firm. They were playing in New Orleans @ The UNO Lakefront Arena.

I worked in a record store at the time at we found out that Page would be in the Quarter the Night before the show.

A buddy and I went to the Quarter looking for him. (fat chance of finding him I know).

Well we had given up hope of seeing him and we were walking back to the car, when we passed some hole-in-the wall bar on some side street. as we passed by the entrance, we both glanced in, and I'll be damned if there wasn't this tall lanky guy, dressed in all white with a scarf around his neck, leaning on the bar. We both froze and looked at each other, like "that's HIM"!

We went in and were able to talk to him for about an hour or so. It was really hard to understand him. He was trashed. Couple that with a heavy British accent, and the music in the bar, it was tough.

The coolest thing was when he went off for a bit,(we're thinking he may have ditched us) then comes back bringing us beers!!!!!!!!! Freaking Jimmy Page bought me beers! Then some Rod Stewart song came on, and a jammin guitar part came on and Page did an air guitar move made that Jimmy Page Guitar God Face that he makes.

That was a very cool night.

Sat down and had a long talk with Lee Dorman, bass player of Iron Butterfly before a show. Afterwards, met up with the whole band. But over the years met so many musicians, got autographs, photos, etc. Been seeing live concerts since 1971 & before that, parents took me to jazz shows. At 65 now, still go to shows!

I hope the “Jimmy Page playing air guitar story” is true. I’m just gonna have to believe.

I only have sports figure stories.

I've met a number of band members after shows at the merch table. Vernon Reid, Corey Glover, Dug Pinnick, Ty Tabor, Alexis Brown from Straight Line Stitch, for example. I've only done one meet and greet, that was John Petrucci and Dave LaRue before a G3 show. I went on the Progressive Nation at Sea cruise in 2014 and met a bunch of people. Talked to Mike Portnoy (kind of an arrogant dick) for a few minutes. Had multiple conversations with Devin Townsend. Talked to Adrian Belew for about 30 seconds. Had a conversation with Neal Morse of Spock's Beard. Talked to Dug Pinnick again, this time he was with Anneke Van Giersbergen. Talked to Jerry Gaskill for about 30 minutes while we watched Bumblefoot and Tony Harnell do an '80s set. Played basketball with Mark Holcomb of Periphery, he seemed pretty cool. This was on a cruise ship, so the odds of meeting band members was higher, being a captive audience and all. For the most part, I'm not usually interested in meeting the band. I always thought Neal Peart had the right idea about meeting fans.

About 30 years ago, my brother and I used to shoot darts with the drummer for Waxing Poetics at a bar in Norfolk,VA pretty regularly.

My son and I actually know Bruce Hornsby. We go to the Boo Williams AAU complex in Hampton, VA every year to watch the top HS basketball players play in front of ALL the major HCs in college basketball.

We're always decked out in our LSU gear, and Bruce's son played for LSU a few years back. We struck up a conversation, and for several years now, we watch the games over there with him.

We don't know him outside of that setting, but he's REALLY a nice guy. And if you didn't know who he was, you would never have a clue how famous he is.

Friend of mine knows Randy Jackson of Zebra. He was playing solo at the 19th Hole in Houston around 2002. We had dinner and drinks at some Mexican joint. Really down to earth guy and I've always been a huge fan since the St. Christopher and CYO days of the early 80's. He insisted on picking up the tab..Csb.
