Alright, let's go, episode 5!
My thoughts from watching the episode:
-GREAT opening and closing song choices
-This week we're back to original intro song rather than the Alanis cover (the original is SO much better)
-The fake snow on the ground in the wilderness scenes has looked terrible so far this season. It's 2023, why can't we get realistic fake snow!?
-Good job Callie figuring out Jeff is Detective Matt! And now feeding him false info? GO CALLIE! Too bad Matt is willing to sniff used condoms to figure out you were BSing him. Curious to see how "Jay" and Callie's relationship progresses from this point on. She knows he's a cop and he knows she's feeding him bogus intel. Seems like it'd be a good time for Adult Shauna to murder his arse.
-I thought they did a great job casting Adult Van
-One thing I love about this show is the comedic aspect.
For example, this exchange when Callie gets back from bowling:
Callie: Promise you won’t freak out?
Adult Shauna: No
Jeff:Sure!
-Teen Misty: “One time I walked in on my parents having sex and I wasn’t completely grossed out”
-THANK GOD we got rid of Crystal (or "Kristen" ha!)…she was the (SECOND) worst (Mari is still the absolute worst). How long until we eat her??
-I KNEW WALTER WOULD FIGURE OUT MISTY’S STORY ABOUT ADAM’S MOM WAS A LIE! Why is Misty trying to lie to a Citizen Detective? She should know better
-On that note, Misty needs to murder Walter
-Lottie whispering, “you’re going to change everything” to Teen Shauna's unborn baby!? That baby is definitely getting sacrificed.
-JAVI WHO IS THE FRIEND!? Is someone else actually out there or is the "friend" who told him to stay away imaginary?
-Adult Nat's OD trip was wild. So the shadows in that scene seem to confirm that Lottie is the AQ?
Time to head over to the Yellowjackets Reddit page to see what those Citizen Detectives have gleaned from this episode.

Good episode. I will say out of boredom I have found myself reading and watching prediction videos on YouTube for the next episodes and a lot have recently been exactly correct. Not necessarily big things, but stuff that they, or even I, saw coming.
I believe I read, possibly here, it was a 5 season plan, so we won't have answers anytime soon on much of what I drew us into the first season and series to begin with. Although, it may turn out to really stick the landing. Then again it may be a great premise, plot, and first few seasons with a ridiculous ending. I am hoping for the former.
Jay sniffing the conom I sort of feel like Matt (the high school friend detective, if that is his name I am drawing a blank) might actually be somewhat on their side, although we see a trailer scene of him and jay and other cops at Shauna's door with a warrant and Callie In the back.
Coach is weak and missing a leg, but the smart thing for him and I am sure he is capable, would be to methodically get them before they can get him lol. Take the 3030 at night, get rid of the trouble makers. He seems resigned to dying though so I have no doubt he will get killed. I like the two sides of Tai thing in the 90s and I dont mind it in the present timeline, I just think it will take time for them to develop where they are going with it.

Episode 5 was a great set up for the second half of the season. The preview for episode 6 looks like it’s about to start getting crazy.
This is easily my favorite show in a long time, probably since the first few seasons of GOT. The writers have done a fantastic job of leaving everything open to interpretation over what’s really happening. Can plausibly make the argument everything happening is supernatural witchcraft, some Greek pagan cult, mercury poisoning, simple trauma, etc, and they give crumbs feeding each theory every episode. What makes me hopeful it sticks the landing is that they have said they have the whole story written already, so everything should be purposeful with a resolution, and no mystery for the sake of dragging the story on.
I’m actually enjoying the present day storylines a lot more than last season except for Shauna’s. I’m sure it’ll tie together at some point with the rest of the group but so far it seems just random to the main plot.

I saw some theories, one on here I think from another poster, that Misty's bestie was imaginary but I dont think I'll buy it until ii see it. Although she wasnt in season 1 (which makes sense as there were like 30 girls going swimming in the lake) and some new faces this season) and others have interacted with her.
But yes I think things will get darker. Are people still thinking the cult girl with the fish is the daughter of Shauna born in the woods, or has that been disproven to the point that it can be?

I thought she might be imaginary until this last episode where Mari (I think?) comes up to them in the cabin and asks them to pick a chore card and she says, "What are you two up to?" So kinda ruined the theory for me.

Teen Lottie thinks Teen Shauna is having a baby boy, so we should know soon whether that theory is debunked.

Yes, but what was odd is that only one of them drew a card. That stood out to me. Why didn’t they both draw a card? Each should have a chore. Maybe she said what she said because it was so obvious that Misty was speaking to an imaginary friend at that point and she was just playing along.

They were talking about Elijah Woods character being imaginary. It had a ton of plot holes, mainly the questioning of Randy. Pretty positive that theory is not correct.

Also in the little morning nature circle misty and crystal both say "singing" at the exact same time and Lottie just looks at misty. But yeah the "what are you two up to" threw me off.
As to Sloth, I get creepy vibes because Lottie was saying stuff like "he wants blood" and shite when she was possessed and Jacky sees the random guy when she is dying in the death scene. I can't tell if she is referring to the baby as "he" or "he" as in some dark entity. But she does refer to the baby as he as well. We shall find out.
ETA: at above post, that would make some sense except Randy tells Shauna nothing weird had happened except getting interrogated by the FBI. Randy is such a frick up, he could have easily (pardon the disgusting imagery) put the rubber on and got his dna in it and it wouldnt be a stretch to say Randy might not be able to keep it up and finish. Yet idk whats more disturbing, typing that or Jay/Italiian cop sniffing said condom.

5th episode was pretty good, we may be getting back on track here.

Tried to wait out the season (so I could binge it) but got bored and watched it, now I’m caught up.
I have to say, the present-day storylines started off slow but they’re really coming together now. Adult Tai breaking down to Van (“I killed my fricking dog!”) was really good acting IMO. Christina Ricci continues to be fantastic. Walter better sleep with one eye open.
The Lottie/Nat story is really getting interesting with Nat’s vision or whatever, and now we’ll have the added curveball of Misty at the compound.
Even the adult Shauna stuff is getting better, simply for the comic relief if nothing else. I thought the scene where the daughter tells them about the cop was pretty funny.
I’m definitely hooked again. I love that nothing would really surprise me at this point. Crystal being imaginary actually makes sense, but I also wouldn’t be the least bit shocked to see Crystal turn into dinner before long.
It definitely seems like they want us to think Lottie is the AQ, especially with that shadow at the end. But idk, feels like a head fake.

I don't think she's imaginary, but it did seem weird that it feels like she came out of nowhere. I literally don't remember seeing her before this episode.
And of course Misty gets a "bestie" and immediately kills her (though indirectly).
Preview for next week looks like the adult stories converge and they're all at Lottie's cult place. I hope that means it will get more interesting in the current timeline.
Van's store threw me off for a second. I was wondering if they were showing just a jump forward, but still in the past, since she was messing with video tapes.
I agree that the baby is toast once it is born.
Callie is so stupid. And the cop sees right through it, obviously. My biggest WTF about that is that he has to know she's in high school, and he looks like he's about 30. And they've treated that subplot poorly IMO. We barely get any screen time with the two of them, and all of a sudden Callie is throwing herself at him and trying to make sexual bets while bowling? That scene was one gigantic ball of cringe.
I audibly laughed when Shauna told the dad's best friend Randy "Don't think about me" when he was going to jerk off. I'd have been like "Why would I think of you? You are supremely unattractive." It also felt kinda reckless of Shauna not to check the condom. The cop smelling it at least makes sense because he doubts it and is trying to disprove that anything happened. But Shauna should know better not to tryst that something went the way you thought it would. But then again, she's the dumbest character on the show. I really, really hate adult Shauna.
Interested to see where the second half of the season takes us.

"Promise you won't freak out."
Jeff: "Ok."
Shauna: "No."
What does AQ mean? I've seen it several times and have never heard it.
ETA: Is it Antler Queen?

I agree. I think it was somewhat poor casting for adult Shauna. Also, why even stage the fake condom? Why not make the cops think he raw dogged her? I guess in Shauna's defense, she figured Randy would be able to fill it with baby batter.

Correct.

Also Jeff’s look of exasperation and defeat when he realizes this Randy thing is happening whether he likes it or not.

I was confused at first by the description on my Cox guide when watched the episode. It said something like "Shauna finds herself unusually randy." Then I watched it and was like ooooohhhh.
