Kind of worried here, this season is off the rails completely

This is where I am as well.

I really enjoy the show, and I've liked both episodes so far. But this season seems like it's going to get weird as frick. And based on the little snippets after the show of the creators and actors talking about it, it's only going to get more and more weird. Which is fine as long as it makes sense. But my concern is that it will dive head first into being weird just for shock value and not because it is logical. Shocking things that make sense within the story are fine; shocking things just for the sake of shocking doesn't usually resonate with me too well.

For example, in the little blurb after the show the producer was talking about the scene where they cannibalized Jackie, and he was just so smug about it, and the cast was too. "Our fans are gonna lose their shite and freak out!!" Just stuff like that. And the way that scene was shot was just trying way too hard to make something artsy fartsy that didn't need to be. They're stranded in the frozen wilderness with minimal food. Cannibalism may be necessary to keep themselves alive. But instead they tried to make some huge deal about it, and it just was weird for me. I mean shite, we just saw Shauna eat Jackie's ear raw at the end of the last episode. But now that everybody else joins in they try to church it up and dress them up in nice white clothes like it's some hugely symbolic thing instead of just starving kids in the woods. I don't know, it just was off to me for whatever reason. Maybe I'm alone in that regard.

Them burning Jackie's jacket was egregiously stupid. In the dead of winter in the wilderness, you're going to choose not to keep something like that that will obviously help prevent people from dying?

It's pretty crazy that Taissa has not only lived her life this long with insane "sleepwalking" issues, but that she's managed to be as successful as she is. It almost doesn't make sense how she could get that far in life without killing herself (or someone else), or without being diagnosed with something preventing her from holding public office.

The whole Shauna thing with eating Jackie'e ear was stupid and weird. It doesn't even make sense why she'd do it. Even if you're hungry, eating a frozen ear just doesn't make sense. Throw that shite into a fire for a minute, or into some soup for frick's sake.

I think I saw it mentioned that they end up stranded for like 17 or 19 months? So at some point the group is gonna have Shauna's baby in the wild for damn near a year?

Am I the only one that thinks the way they flash forward and backward feels sort of disjointed sometimes?

It's amazing to me how sloppy Shauna is with just about everything in her adult life. And she's so smug about it too. I can't stand her (although I don't think we're supposed to anyway ). And it's almost inexcusable for her and her husband to leave a piece of Adam's license unburned, especially one showing his face.

And the Callie character is awful.

I'm really interested to see what they do with Javi. Dude has been gone for two months in the snow. I like what Nat tried to do for Travis, but the whole Lottie "He's still alive" thing likely means that he's gonna randomly show up one day out of the blue.

I'm surprised they haven't killed the coach yet.

See link on the previous page to the Cult of Dionysus. I think it was a symbolic thing for a reason.

Pretty sure there were multiple things going on in that scene. First, she was starving, even more so than her teammates because she's 7 months pregnant. Second, she didn't want to get caught with it and tried to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Third, she really missed Jackie and she probably thought have a piece of Jackie inside her would bring her closer to her dead friend.

They're in the woods for 19 months. I also don't know why you assume the baby will be born alive and/or will survive a year without dying or being sacrificed. So no, the baby may not be in the wild for a year.

A lot of people on the internet think Javi is hiding/living in some abandoned tunnels in the mountain. They think the tunnels run under the stump they keep mentioning and the warmth from the tunnels is what melts the snow around the stump. Also, Lottie keeps having visions of a tunnel with lots of candles, which people believe also points to their being tunnels in the mountain.

That's true. I guess in my head I was equating Callie to Shauna being pregnant in the woods, but that doesn't make sense based on her age and the timeline (25 years later between the flashbacks and present day). Clearly something is gonna happen to the baby. I'm sure they'll use it as an appetizer or something while they are dressed in white and snacking on Javi or some such shite.

I'm with you, but so far they have been very good about not being over the top weird/grotesque just for the sake of it. The way they actually shot the scene of them eating Jackie was proof of that, there were barely any shots of them consuming flesh. I thought it was a well execute montage showing them being unhinged and beastly but feasting on wine and food, not on Jackie.

There's no way that baby is born alive and/or makes it any length of time before being sacrificed.

I agree. I get the character is there to show how Shauna will get caught for Adam's murder, but they could have done something way better. It's going to be so predictable when she is on a "date" with the undercover cop and the little picture of Adam falls out of her pocket.

How they handle this is going to be a big part in making or breaking the show. If he is still alive and just was out surviving that winter alone then that's jumping the shark, but if the theory that there are some abandoned mines that have some geothermal springs then that makes it a little better (supporting example being the hollowed out tree with no snow and moss growing on it). It also plays more into the Bacchus/Dionysus mythos of death and resurrection.

Some people think the woman Nat stabbed with a fork at Lottie's compound could be the baby from the woods, but I'm not buying it. I think that woman is more likely to be a Lottie/Travis love child if she's more than just a throwaway character.

I mean, how would Shauna not know that it was her child (or that her child makes it out of the woods alive)?

As much of a psycho as Shauna is, I'm not sure that's on brand for her (if it were true).

He thought about participating and even stepped forward a little but ultimately it was a bridge too far for him.

I think what this show does best is it keeps you guessing if there is or isn’t a supernatural aspect at play here.
Almost everything “weird” that happens can be explained away by psychosis, PTSD, and hallucinations from hunger and exposure.

Adult Misty is still the all star of the cast. Ricci is just so good in that role. On the flip side I just don’t buy the portrayal of adult Nat. It seems forced at times.

Ole Coach guy is probably thinking shite I lived with them cutting off a leg maybe they are gonna see what else I can live without. Be fricked up if they started by eating someone a piece at a time.

Yeah Coach is dead weight anyway. The old Greek and Roman stuff is very intriguing. I don't think they're going off the rails, I think this was always the plan.

Probably. Misty is gonna finally get a bite out of ol coach Ben.

The whole greek mythos shite is pretty great imo.

I saw earlier someone said these stream on Fridays but the app says Sundays, so are they streaming a live version once on friday and then releasing them at the normal time sunday night?

They make the episode available via streaming early Friday morning and then they broadcast it live the normal time on Sunday.

Just finished episode 3 and a few thoughts...

-Adult Shauna's speech at the chop shop was BADASS! As if it wasn't clear from last season, she's clearly psychotic

-I would have bet anything that Teen Misty's baby shower gift to Teen Shauna would have been something weird made out of Jackie's bones. A monologue from Steel Magnolias was not nearly as exciting.

-So Adult Lottie has a weird cabin that she lives in at the compound that she keeps locked. What are the chances the interior is an almost exact replica to the cabin they lived in near the crash site?

-Also, I found it strange that Adult Misty doesn't seem to know about Lottie's compound in upstate NY? Citizen Detective my arse!

-Curious what Adult Lottie's vision of the dead bees was related to. Seems like shite is about to go down for the remaining Adult Yellowjackets.

-Coach Ben does not look long for this world. With all the flashbacks he's having, if he doesn't die or natural causes soon, it seems like he's going to off himself.

-Was the white moose Teen Nat saw at the airplane real, or just a symbol of something?

-Speaking of symbols, Teen Shauna gets a nosebleed and then birds start dropping dead out of the sky? What's that about?

For those worried about this season going off the rails, they dialed it back a bit this week. Hope they pick up some momentum again next week.

good episode, but slower paced. Birds I have no clue, but the Lottie vision has me thinking that maybe she is still very scared of "the wilderness" or whatever it is and might be just as concerned as the other adults. I am wondering if they will all come together? A teaser had Nat being weirdly cultish and talking to Misty about Lottie through a fence.

You saw there at the end the group starting to crack and factions being formed with the group gathering birds as a gift for the wilderness gods or whatever like Van and a few others at Lotties feet and then Nat and Taissa going inside wanting nothing to do with that shite

I think the cliffhanger will be the birth of the baby, although there’s a lot more of the season left.. I think it’s a great place to leave it leading to season 3.

I didn't notice this but I'm guessing one of the factions is obviously lottie and the other misty who has one dedicated follower the singer and just had that fantastic performance to win over the rest lol i was happy for her.

I'm still saying it a Wendigo in the wilderness with the kids. It seems to match all the lore.

Interesting theory. I know there are some new faces it looks like that weren't there last season (or just weren't given screen time) to bolster the numbers for factions.

I find it interesting though that Tai, Shauna, Misty and Nat would all still be so close if they were not on the same "faction" side. However, it was a long time ago and maybe once rescued, or the reality of being rescued was imminent, they knew they all had to come together for a story and just didnt want anything to do with Lottie.

Nat is drinking those shakes at the compound in the episode so maybe she is being drugged or something, the way she tells Misty about Lottie in the teaser seems un-Nat-ish (unless she somehow has some reason to believe she is close to Travis there).

Still not buying Lottie's version of Travis's death, or at least that her story was the full story.
