I’ve always thought The Killer Angels would be pretty cool source material for a miniseries.

The Parker novels by Richard Stark

I need to give those a whirl. I know they were a partial influence on Stephen King, and there was a bit of an homage in The Dark Half.

Dark Tower is an easy one. I always felt Ender's Game could have been so much more than the movie.

I'd like to see Dragonlance get the production it deserves...I'll probably go to the grave before that happens though

The Black Company series would be perfect for GOT style treatment. Dark, violent, funny and pretty damn epic all in one. Plus the Lady would I am sure be a smoke show.

Konami will never allow it if Kojima is involved. The whole situation is a shite show.

The Dark Tower was a good choice. Just stay away from the abomination that was the movie.

I would go w/ the Parker series from Donald Westlake. Great late 50'2 through early 70's series w/ a great lead. Point Blank w/ Lee Marvin and Payback with Mel Gibson were two movies based on the books. I'm reading the books now again and they have enough great plots to work. Very noir and doesn't feature the dames in a modern positive light but great nonetheless.

I refuse to get my hopes up.

It's going to have to be really parsed down to fit into a TV show, which isn't the end of the world if done right, but leaves so much room for error.

Havent read the thread so im sure its already been mentioned but Abercrombies "First Law" series would be incredible.

After one reading, I felt like ASOIAF was much better, but after a reread, Abercrombie is right up there with GRRM. The First Law is quite a bit darker though.

1. Dune...forget about the movie...you need a mini-series to have enough time to do it Justice.
2. The Dark Tower...already touched on.

I hear you. I am cautiously optimistic.

Rafe Judkins is the showrunner and a big fan. The writing team they have put together seems pretty competent.

The casting director they just announced is a damn good one. A real pro that has done some amazing casting on other shows.

We will see but I think there is some signs of optimism.

Also, they appear to be doing roughly two books a season, 10 episode seasons. Once they get to books 8-11 Rafe has already basically said a tremendous amount of material is going to need to be redone or excised.

Oh and Brandon Sanderson has recently commented on it. He's read some of the scripts. He was thrilled with the first script, said the 2nd script was good but gave them a bunch of feedback. They really seem to be listening to him. Rafe spent a lot of time with him recently.

Jack Whyte's Camulod Chronicles

Some that read GOT before the series started may be familiar with this series.
It is a more historical, less fantasy chronicle of the Britains settling in after the Roman Empire, and the subsequent Arthurian Legend.
The series is awesome because it ends the 9 books with "Arthur" but focuses on the three generations before him that set everything up.

Amazon is spending $1B on a three part series for Three Body Problem. Would love to see the same with The Diamond Age.

World War Z in the episodic style true to the book, where you have loosely related episodes in the same world.

The book gives you a few seasons of awesome stories. You could track the war or have a looser narrative structure.

This is all good to hear.

There's no doubt a lot of "filler" in the books that can be excised if done right. And the sheer amount of characters would have to be reduced for a TV show. It puts Game of Thrones to shame.

I just hope they can keep the cast and key crew together for a full series.

We really don't know a lot and it could be a disaster. But the team they seem to be putting together is really good.

The director of the first two episodes won an Emmy as a cinematographer on the Wire and she has directed a lot of shows like Orange is the New Black, Westworld, Altered Carbon, Stranger Things, etc etc.

The Casting Director cast the shows The Last Kingdom and Broadchurch (among many others).

Filming starts in Prague (where Amazon already has several period piece sets) in September.

It could still be a disaster, but I think it is trending in the right direction.

I hope I'm wrong but I really don't see this translating well to live action. Young actors don't stay young. But it's a great story and I'll definitely watch.

George MacDonald Fraser's Flashman series would be a homerun for HBO. Can Danny McBride do an English accent?
