I obviously won't be alive to see it, but I fully expect these three films to be the most relevant from our Age for a century +

Can they be topped? Sure, it's possible.. Will they? Very doubtful IMO

Brandon Sanderson’s work will be the next possibility. In preparation for his Mistborn trilogy he studied Tolkien and what made adaptation to film so successful.

Ok I'll bow out of this convo. Not a fan of LOTR, so I shouldn't have commented.

Why not? LOTR is the topic of discussion, no problem with not thinking it's the greatest thing ever. I wouldn't argue with you much if you said Godfather 1-2 goes toe-to-toe with the LOTR trilogy, but that last GF was just bad.

Yeah I merely mentioned something as a possibility and I’m dv’d out of the gate. It’s my all time favorite trilogy, and IMO the best book to film adaptations there are, and it’s debatable that the films are better than the books (I’ll get dv’d for even suggesting this as well).

Do I think Mistborn will “top” it? Probably not, because not many things will have time and fandom on its side like Tolkien and LOTR. It’s just the next opportunity for something to possibly enter the discussion in the same genre, fantasy.

Once someone explains it to some people, it’ll be the best ever. It’s so hard to follow halflings and a ring.

Unless there is some industry shift on how movies are made, I doubt it.

That OG cast made sacrifices and was dedicated to their craft to levels actors now have no interest in doing, and studios have no appetite for the production level of detail they executed back then.

Abomination is an exaggeration. It was far inferior to the first two but far superior to many movies.

But it does firmly remove the trilogy from contention in any top trilogy of all time discussions.

I love the Mistborn trilogy. But I don't think it tops LOTR. I am excited that Apple has given Sanderson pretty much full creative control. So that has me optimistic.

Brandon Sanderson’s work

Unfortunately the woke shite that had started to creep into his work was cranked up to 11 in the latest book in the Stormlight archive series Wind and Truth. Incredibly disappointing.

Probably not a coincidence that it came out around the same time he made his deal with the devil/Apple.

Yes and I’ve delayed my reading of WaT. I follow him on YouTube and in a recent update he discussed completing the first draft of the Mistborn screenplay and was making updates according to what Apple wanted to incorporate. So that part makes me a little less optimistic. Hopefully it’s not “creative input.”

By those that haven't read the books I'm assuming.

I agree it is the greatest trilogy ever. Some of the best movies ever for that matter. But they definitely aren't better than the books.
