Eyes Wide Shut

That opening scene of Kidman dropping that dress to the floor showed how incredible she was then.

The first 20 or so minutes of "Saving Private Ryan" are some of the most realistic looking battle scenes I've ever seen in a movie. It really brought the horror of war to the big screen.

Second would be "Gladiator".

Love that movie and I think it's one of Cage's best efforts.

I liked the line "I found myself driving by convenience stores-------------that weren't on the way home".

Raising Arizona is a unique choice.

I'll throw out the obligatory Up. And I still think Bells of Notre Dame in Hunchback is a superior opening to Lion King in terms of animated films.

For some reason I've always liked the opening scene of Apocalypse Now with the helicopters and the Doors song The End. It's probably not great really but for some reason it appeals to me

The Dark Knight

Terminator 2 - the graphics probably hold up the least here but the music and when it ends with the fire and Terminator skull coming through it.. gives me chills

Scene starts out in Earth orbit, as 'current' day radio songs are playing. As the camera pulls back, older and older songs and audio are played. This is to demonstrate that the radio signals we've been putting out for 100 year are ever traveling further out into space. The older the signal, the further away.

If you've got good speakers /headphones, the last thing you'll hear is a Morse code signal for SOS. From the Titanic.

All of modern human history in just under 2 minutes time.

This all day for me and many a vet had to leave the theater during the opening scenes.

2001 A Space Odyssey is one of the best openings I can remember.

Pulp Fiction with the diner robbery at the beginning was also great.
