I still remember when I was little and went to see Empire Strikes Back. We sat in the theater and watched it twice. The opening scenes of Hoth were incredible.

1. All 3 Lord of the Rings in one sitting on release date of R.o.t.K.

2. Inception (movie truly took me on a journey with its story)

3. Avatar 3D (only way 3D films should ever be made)

1. Saw my first movie breasts watching a movie called There's a Girl in My Soup (1970) IMDb. It featured Peter Sellers and Goldie Hawn.

2. & 3. Because of the sheer brutality, Bonnie and Clyde (1967) & The Wild Bunch (1969), both freaked me out at eight and 10 years old.

4. My brother's and I became big Steve McQueen fans after seeing him jump the fence on the motorcycle in The Great Escape (1963). That encouraged us to make ramps that we jumped on our 20" Western Flyer buzz bikes, until my brother landed on his front tire, broke the front wheel & his forks stuck in the ground.

It nearly knocked him out. We got him to sit up, and waited maybe 15 minutes before he got up. The lady who's yard we were in came out to check on him. Her son had supplied us with the materials to make the ramp and made a few jumps. She called my mom, and, to make a long story short, we had to tear the ramps apart and put the plywood & the saw horses back in her husbands storage building.

Too bad we didn't have smart phones or I'd have video of us jumping and measuring where we landed. I was in fourth grade and my crazy, do anything first, brother was a year ahead of me.

We nailed one end of two sheets of plywood to the top of a saw horse. We built it at the bottom of a long hill. We had two huge perfectly manicured grass yards to build up speed while pedaling like crazy down that hill.

At first we went slow enough that we'd land on the other piece of plywood. Once we got gong, we'd land further and further away from the ramp. We measured where we landed with a tape measure. Then it was a contest. My brother's last jump was the longest, but it was controversial because he landed on the front tire, and we were all landing on our back tire. We argued, and even measure the distance between the end of his front tire to his back tire, while holding the wheel that broke off next to the forks sticking in the ground. Wish I remember how far the jump was.

Sorry for the long post. I'm on a mixture of edibles.

I’m old so I got 5.

1. 1977, Star Wars, opening scene, in a Lake Charles theater, a big ol’ black dude wearing a back-pack walked down the aisle and began shouting Bible passages. I jumped over my wife to protect her. They wrestled the dude out of the theater and graciously restarted the movie. What an opening act!

2. 1969, Barbarella with Jane Fonda’s opening strip scene on a 48-inch outdoor screen in Vietnam with about 100 Marine grunts. Well, just use your imagination.

3. 1969-70, any movie in the Camp Schwab (Okinawa) movie theater with 500 rowdy Marine grunts. You could never concentrate on the movie but the incessant catcalls and insults were hilarious.

4. 1977, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Incredible light show, the perfect Sci-Fi of its time.

5. 1993, Jurassic Park, even at age 43 and a combat vet, I was actually terrorized by the T-Rex vs. the kids scene.

Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989. I was 7 and remember standing in line with my mom thinking how cool all the black tshirts were with the new Batman logo.

In recent memory, probably Endgame. “On your left…” sending the theater into a frenzy is a memory I won’t forget.

At the little one screen theatre in our town there was the main seating room at ground level and a balcony above.

I always wondered why we never went to watch from the balcony. When I got older, I found out it was a leftover thing from days of segregation - whites sat in the bottom and African Americans sat in the balcony.

I was in Europe and went out drinking with a bunch of friends. We all got pretty drunk and stoned and stumbled into the nearest theatre to see a movie. We chose Kingpin based on the title alone. We had no idea what the movie was or even that it was a comedy. Had never heard of it, just assumed it was a British gangster movie or something based on the title. Imagine our delight to have one of the funniest movies ever play out completely unexpected. We laughed so hard throughout the movie that some of the other patrons got up and left.

Later when I talked to my friends back in the states I told them to go see it ASAP. They looked at the movie listings and didn't even see it anywhere. For some reason they released Kingpin in Europe before the US.

A woman of large size and larger mouth talked back at the screen for 90 mins (“Look out! He gon’ git you!” And “What a beautiful endin’ to da movie”) until another woman who appeared to be on the far other end of the socio-economic spectrum said, “BUY THE VIDEO if you want to talk to it”.

Whereupon the first woman wheeled around and “YOU shut up white bitch before I whup yo azz!”

I thought, “This will be fun”, but the credits were rolling by then and everybody just got up and left.

I have three…
Snuck into Ten when I was 12…First video nudity and Bo Derek was insanely hot.
Purple Rain…back then movies would come around to your city more than once…went to the theater in the minority side of town. Big group of the audience stood up at the front of the theater and did every dance with the characters…it was awesome.
First time in an IMAX…saw an African documentary about the Wildebeest migration…it was awe-inspiring.

Top Gun 1986 - It was basic 4 channel Dolby IIRC but it was a completely different cinematic audio experience than I remember in seeing Star Wars, James Bond, or Jaws. Right from the get go as the jets were revving I knew I was in for a treat.

Star Wars Episode I

I skipped school to see this with a bunch of my friends. We convinced my English teacher to reschedule a test so we wouldn’t miss it. I honestly think she would’ve called in sick too. She was a big sci-fi nerd.

Walk in the theater and see one of our classmates parents sitting in the second row. Instantly recognized all of us and asked, ”Aren’t all of you supposed to be at school?”
I replied, “Aren’t both of you supposed to be at work?”
He smiled and started fake coughing. “Sick day.” “Same here.”

Seeing Super Troopers in a packed theater was a blast.

Austin Powers Spy Who Shagged Me was a lot of fun.
