If Jaws is considered horror than easily Jaws as it’s my favorite movie of all time.

I prefer a movie that relies more on suspense and allows my imagination to work rather than just throw blood and guts and gore at me (e.g. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc.)
So with that said, my favorites are (in no specific order)
Halloween
Alien
Exorcist (I admit that special effects played a big part)
Growing up in the 50s, I also have a fondness for:
Frankenstein
Dracula
Wolfman
Creature From The Black Lagoon

I watched this movie way too young. Fricked me up for years.
I saw the movie, then I went out and bought the book to read.
I was single and living in a 100 year old barge board shotgun house in the Lower 9th Ward at the time. I'd read some late at night after a days work and cleaning up after eating and that old house would occasionally groan and creak, and did so at some pretty inopportune times when reading that book..
It would send the hairs on the back of my neck and my arms on end when it did that. I found the book scarier than the movie.

Why don't any of you Louisiana baws mention Angel Heart? Got something against it? It's right up there with The Shining for atmospheric horror. Probably a little scarier in some scenes.

Hard to choose a favorite...some of my all-time favorites though would be:
Jaws
Alien
Halloween
Night of the Living Dead (60s and 90s version)
The Thing
The Shining
The Exorcist
I recently rewatched a Nightmare on Elm Street and had forgotten how truly good that movie is.

Say no more. Watch the following movies (keep in mind I'm a bit younger than most on this board so I gravitate towards new age suspense/thrillers)...
It Follows
The Strangers
Hereditary
Unfriended: Dark Web
You're Next
Ready or Not
Sinister
It (2017)
The Belko Experiment (little more blood and guts than others on his list, but still a great movie)
That list provides a good balance between supernatural, realistic, and comedic horror. All are quality movies (Unfriended: Dark Web is probably the weakest) and bring something different to the table that the other movies don't.

Not sure how it holds up as I haven't seen it in several years, but The Descent was pretty scary.

easily The Thing.
A solid second is Aliens.
Jacobs Ladder freaked me out as a kid but on rewatch it's alright.

Watch the original The Omen

The Shining and the original Halloween would have to be my top two

I'm a really big fan of the House of 1000 corpses trilogy
And if you're a fan of Rob Zombie, ultra low budget horror movies, 31 is classic example of that style... pretty fricked up like all of his movies, and with a fantastic big bad (Richard Brake)

Jaws is one of my favorite movies of any genre. I don’t even really think about it as a horror movie, even though it is. Just like I don’t see Predator as a sci fi movie, yet it is.
