I don't think he was able to rise from "Master of Disguise". One of the worst films ever made.

The Dana Carvey Show was another flop, though I thought it was pretty funny. Their was a big controversy after the first episode when he showed Bill Clinton breast feeding some puppies.

Not sure how much of it had to do with his health...some doctor screwed up a heart bypass surgery at one point. His comeback was supposed to be Master of Disguise and we know how that went. Looks like he decided to spend his time with his family after that rather than on his career.

Mike Myers wouldn't even throw him a bone with a role in the Austin Powers movies.

Does anyone else remember the movie Clean Slate? That was a guilty pleasure of mine.

Steve Carrell, Stephen Colbert, Dino Stamatopolous, Spike Feresten, Jon Glaser, Robert Smigel, Charlie Kaufman. I honestly don't know how this show didn't work.

ETA: And Louis CK

A lot of people peaked with SNL. After SNL, you either become a big movie star, or people forget you ever existed.

IDK but Opportunity Knocks is one of my favorite comedies.

SNL was his venue. TV and film just didn't agree with him.

That, and you don't ridicule GHWB and expect to have a career, kind of like Piscipo and Hartman ridiculing Sinatra. You either fizzle out or are dealt with.

I don't think making fun of the president had anything to do with his career ending.

That movie is god awful, but can still make me laugh somewhat. Kind of a sucker for stupid comedy.

A lot of shows like that are breeding grounds for great talent...just achieved later.

Look at the Ben Stiller Show or The State.

It takes time...although the talent is there.

He had a brush with death and sued his doctor. Doctor operated on the wrong side of his heart. Dana is sitting pretty in retirement.
