Fëanor‘s story alone is worth $$$

I agree, but I don't see how you could make it into movies... just the sheer scope and scale of it.

Would be difficult for sure. But a little snippet of him getting the drive to create the Silmarils, the glory of the two trees, Melkor destroying the trees and the hunt to reclaim the Silmarils could be epic.

But I agree. Don’t know how the general public would turn out for just that. Would be nerd porn for us diehards though lol. Esp if the casting was on point.

I mean, this is a thread for someone who has never seen them. So you’re spoiling some pretty severe shite with that post. What a severely assholish thing to do.

But I suppose that’s your MO here when you’ve seen or read something and others haven’t.
I agree - but it seems like you've really revised your spoiler policy over time. Didn't you used to be a big time "it's x years ago, and you still haven't seen it? That's on YOU!" type?

Watching Lord of the Rings for the first time
The best part of the entire endeavor is the first 20 minutes of Fellowship - in particular the 5 minute quick history at the very beginning. It is truly perfect.

When Gandalf in his cart rounds the corner to Bilbo's house and they use (presumably) the camera crane to perfectly slowly zoom in...sheesh, man, that is high art. It takes my breath way.

Me? Nah, not at all. You clearly have me confused with someone else.

And even if I did adhere to that perspective, this is specifically a thread where the OP said he's never seen them. So intentionally spoiling shite in a thread like this is even more egregious IMO.

To properly cover Feanor/the Silmarils, you'd need a full series with many seasons. To clarify, you'd need as many hours as the complete MCU, but there would be stretches where the action would lag... so movies would be a no-go (a few would be boring standalones).

But Beren and Luthien- MORE epic than LOTR, which is hard to believe if you don't know the stories. Reasonably self-contained and paced, so you could do a trilogy easily. Casting would be crucial, as you would have to nail not just Beren and Luthien, but also Thingol, Finrod, Melian, the sons of Feanor. You get tons of action, TWO big bads (not just Sauron, but then Morgoth in his throne room in Thangorodrim), you get several 'Elven magic' scenes from Luthien, etc.
For "modern film interests", you get Luthien, as written by Tolkien- you don't even need to add to or embellish what she does. *That would likely drive this board insane , but it's actually how it's written. Along those same lines, you get the dynamics in Doriath- as imposing as Thingol is, you still have as his queen Melian the Maia, who again is just a tier above everyone else in the story, outside of Morgoth.

Yall telling this dude to skip the hobbit is garbage. It’s not as good as LOTR but it’s still worth watching. Damn

Not during holiday season, but a few of my buddies and I went and saw Fellowship on the big screen when the Elmwood AMC did a showing this summer. They showed the extended edition and it was badass.

I was vague enough. And you have to have seen that simply through osmosis. It’s like saying I’m spoiling Star Wars by saying Luke has a revelation.

Literally naming main characters's deaths is "vague enough"? Well okay then.

It's hilarious that your response to that is basically "They should have already known it happens anyway."

I didn’t literally name it. I just discussed a motive and that’s it.

Dude. You said _____ and _____’s death are well done. You didn’t discuss motive or anything. You literally said “these two characters die” to someone who has never seen it. Are you taking stupid pills or some shite?

OP. I hope you skip past all of OML’s posts in this thread if you’re planning on watching the Hobbit movies. Sorry he’s such a dick.

Beren and Luthien is the logical choice and as Scoob said, has a bad arse Elve woman to check all the boxes for modern film makers. Also has Sauron to bring casual fans into it. I want to see Huan as well. But I wonder if it would be a 2 or 3 part movie? A series? What could do that story justice?
I imagine a 20-30 minute intro telling a condensed version of the simarills similar to the beginning of Fellowship.

I must say that my wife thinks I'm obsessed with this world and maybe I am. I asked her to get me The Ring of Power with the black speech of Mordor engraved in it for my wedding ring and my cat's name is Mr. Frodo

It’s mentioned in Fellowship of the Ring that Smaug and Thorin die, so no I didn’t spoil shite. I was thinking you were getting pissed at me mentioning the tone that the Ring is destroyed.

To name a few.
Aragorn was completely changed. In the books, he is setting out to fulfill his life's mission and embraces his legacy. In the movies, he is portrayed as hiding from his legacy.

The ages of the hobbits. Frodo was supposed to be an older mentor for the other hobbits, not a peer.

Gandalf and Gimli's reactions to Moria being flipped. Made no sense.

Getting rid of the rangers. Even the connotation of "just a ranger" for Aragorn, when in the books they were well respected and feared.

Arwen's girl-boss moment.

Surfs-up Legolas.
