I never thought John Stewart was funny. He is one of those that will laugh himself when he tells a joke and will try to bring the crowd in with him. They are so stupid, they just laugh because he is laughing so it must be funny.

Yes. They were such bastions of impartiality and hard hitting journalism before the purchase.

Von said Hollywood is a “liberal place” and Vaughn added an addendum: “But not really. It’s more like, ‘We’re smart and got it figured out, and if you don’t agree then you’re an idiot.

2 things can be true here. The latter is a description of almost every liberal I’ve ever met.

The first season or 2 were good.

After that - Oliver became incredibly arrogant, set his sights on one side and it's been downhill ever since.

He used to be a funny British-moderate view on politics, fish out of water style. Then he became a one-sided berater of anything not in line with Liberal thinking.

Occasionally he takes a small jab at the Left - but it's small, and it's often overshadowed by massive swings at conservative thought, Christianity, and anyone with a slight bend towards tradionalism.

You said Trump five times in one post. I just thought you should know.

Yep, that was an unhinged rant for the ages there. If he went much longer he probably would have stroked out

Exactly. Great points. Loved his show until he became one of them for some reason - like that was what he was supposed to do.

I stopped watching and haven’t returned. Funny how quickly people can lose complete interest when they do those things.

Late Night comedy used to be a way for people to end their day with a shared experience and get some laughs before they went to bed. Now it’s about chasing social & virtue points.

Carson, Letterman, Conan, Leno, and Ferguson (yeah, I’ll put him in the top 5 all time) would make themselves the butt of the joke at times.

They were all about the joke but they knew when to be serious. I saw an old Carson last night interviewing Farrah Fawcett after “The Burning Bed” came out - it was a very serious role for her at the time - and he kept it serious.

They were about the interview - it was NOT about them.

The point is that audiences have left in droves because they've decided that if they are going to be lectured, they will at least pick the lecture they want.

Which can be dangerous in it's own right. It's just another form of self-medicating. Finding podcasts that challenge watch you believe in are the best way to go.

He's right.

ETA: I haven't watched SNL since college, I guess. Do they have any material/show that isn't wrapped around politics?

Vaughn is a very smart guy. He's pretty independent and calls it like he sees it and doesnt like how you all have to fall in line with Hollywood.

I really think most of us are like that, with 20% batshit crazy on both sides. I hate that we have to be associated with 1 of 2 parties

I would give up my Alabama fandom and be a Tennessee fan if we could get a third party.

Not really, but you get the point.

He’s not wrong they go heavy handed with it. At the same time Trump gives non stop material of him lying. flip flopping, or just all around demented statements. It’s just basically a quick monologue Trump blunders getting trolled. Seems fair game considering his calls for their job especially with this loyalist fcc chairman.

Btw Ellisons have bought CNN now along with CBS. Just what we needed more state run propaganda. And that’s along with twitter and tik tok now,

So basically a full on takeover of pro Republicans/ Israel talking points and Vince is complaining about late night tv? He should get informed or frick off with this shite. Trump has been gunning for their jobs since first term. Also pretty sure Trump the only president that has ever shined about late monologues weekly.

Btw Trump Mr peaceful on the campaign trail is making sure the entire island of Cuba is suffering greatly with the blockade. Dude has been on a warpath since Minnesota. I wonder who will be next?

The amount of obliviousness in this rant is rather impressive.

I particularly like the comment about Trump making the "entire island of Cuba suffer greatly with the blockade", like that blockade hasn't been in existence for over SIXTY frickING YEARS.

But ya, it's Trump's fault.

This is what The Tonight Show used to be like - just light hearted banter between Johnny and his guests.
