Forget Sharon, how about being obsessed with Peggy Carter? Cap in the MCU is clearly straight, though a more interesting question is whether he is still a virgin. Which is entirely possible given the circumstance.
I'm not opposed to making any character gay. It doesn't really matter all that much, it's just that they've already established Cap as straight. But Bucky could be gay, why not? Same with Falcon, War Machine, Spidey, or even Nick Fury. Actually, it would be sort of interesting to make Doctor Strange gay. But again, it doesn't matter much to me either way. Consistent storytelling does, though.

And why do they not talk about this as something positive? It gets more lip service in the films than in people who searching for films to make social statements.

I think the movies can have that kind of freedom, but it has to be worth it and not a stunt. The problem is that it's nearly impossible to do this to a non-established character and it not look like some kind of stunt or moment of pandering. Then it becomes unnatural and ruins the stories.
It's probably better to just introduce a character who is already homosexual.
