Trainwreck: Woodstock 99 on Netflix

Being there live for the first 2 days was the experience of a lifetime. 16 years old, F.U.B.A.R, in a sea of titties. It was glorious, for awhile.

We left early Sunday morning because we were broke and couldn't find water that didn't smell like shite. Just fortunate we left before shite went off the rails.

I'm glad this documentary is at least pointing the blame at both the crowd and the event producers.

Definitely worth the watch for the music, but *spoiler alert*

in the end they blame the toxic white man

I thought it was toxic masculinity and white supremacy that set it off of the rails?

Is this a new documentary or did they change the name? Saw it was being highlighted on Netflix too and thought to myself didn’t I already see this?

Not that it was awesome, but these are the parties blamed in the hbo doc from last year.

Watched it this morning, was there live - we left during the middle of the RHCP set just before the real riots started.

This is a different documentary than the HBO one and does a MUCH better job of telling the story. Everyone interviewed was there at the event in some form, from beginning to end. There were no random 30 minute segments one part of a DMX song by interviewing a guy who wasn't there.

The end hits on the toxic masculinity angle, but there is room for legit criticism warranted when you consider how prominent groping was when people were crowd surfing (every rock concert at the time, not just Woodstock). But, they did point out the number of people voluntarily naked - male and female, implying the site wasn't the sexist hellscape painted by the HBO document.

They ignored that Metallica played after Limp Bizkit that night. They jumped straight from Limp Bizkit to the rave tent at 1AM. The Metallica set was pretty uneventful from a crown violence point of view so not much to say, but it wasn't true that kids just walked straight from Limp Bizkit to Fatboy Slim.

They also claimed that Limp Bizkit was the most popular band of the time, and the band "everyone came to see." I don't think that was true, at least it wasn't true for our group of 21-25 year old males that were there.

Yeah I wonder why they skipped over that part.

Never understood why Durst got blamed for that shite.

Where they messed up was by not booking more rap acts to keep the peace. DMX was there but they definitely should have had a lot more.

Forgot how cool of a scene that KoRn set looked on tv…hard to believe there was once a time they were that big

I also completely forgot about that black MTV VJ lady

Treat Freaknik with the same critical eye and I might care about their “toxic white masculinity” circle jerks.

Just watched it last night. I had no idea that’s how it went. Crazy. I thought it was strange how they blamed limp bizkit and that everyone went to see them but in the previous episode they said everyone went to see Korn.

Is this the same one that was on HBO last year?

i haven't watching the netflix one but i watched the HBO one. It cracked me up that they were so shocked that people would go to both Limp and a rave tent. Of course people would, people go music festivals to get fricked up and party.

It is really bizarre we are getting two documentaries out of this event. I hope the netflix one at least mentions that 3 years later Bonarroo starts the golden era of music festivals.

3 episodes? Jesus, Netflix.

I'll try the first episode and see.

ETA: Ok, first episode was good, I retract my statement

Because he was telling the idiots in the crowd to "break stuff"?
