A few things to add.

1. The lineup Saturday night was Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine and then Metallica. I saw Rage live in Nashville that December. They nearly started a riot that show.

2. The DMX song in question was the intro off his second album. He was encouraging the fans in the crowd to singalong to his songs. He said in an interview years ago that was the point. He knew his lyrics had the n word a lot, so he didn’t care they were singing the song. Not everyone takes it personal. He knew they weren’t being racist.

3. The reviews for the HBO version were terrible. Moby’s opinion meant nothing. He was playing on emerging artists stage the whole time. Who cared what he thought.

Limp Bizkit weren’t the only ones with songs about rage and aggression. Break Stuff was already popular before they even released the music video for it.

The venue wasn’t at the original location. No trees, no lake, no shade. They purposely cut costs to save money. It was a festival with the biggest acts, but was ran by lazy crooks.

in the end they blame the toxic white man

Just watched last night.

Not once did they use the term "toxic white man".

Not once did they use the term "white man".

They used "frat-boy-types", which was fair.

They clearly laid the blame on the organizers, hell-bound on making a profit; the vendors for absolutely gouging the hell out of attendees; lack of security; lack of shade; lack of overall care for the experience of the concert goers; combined with 250,000 young people (men and women) being pushed and prodded and manipulated and taken advantage of.

Watched it and what a trip down memory lane from the late 90s early 200s MTV.

Also the old woman might be the original Karen. It was great everyone blaming Micheal and John and both trying to blame a small group or Limp Bizkit for it.

Thoroughly enjoyed it and they had great interviews. I do wish they wouldn’t have glossed over rage and metalica playing.

I do think they likely made a bit much about the sexual stuff. I don’t think it was ok but when you are body surfing things get touched for sure. I don’t doubt that actual rape happened but those were likely few and far between.

Overall though it was fairly balanced.

As someone that was Gen X and grew up with Mtv, I always thought that the Mtv Spring Break crowd looked like it was made up of the douchiest of douchebags from places like New Jersey, New York, Boston, and Philladelphia.

Woodstock 99 seemed to be made up of a similar crowd. "Frat boy types" is more than fair.

He was definitely a white man. Looked like a democrat to me though.

Riding around trying to hand out trash bags one by one at a festival of 250k+ people. Virtue signaling at its finest.

I loved her bitching at the people for rolling the art around.

Friday and Saturday looked cool and the rave hanger was probably awesome.

After the promoters drastically cut the sanitation budget. She had a lot of nerve. It's no wonder that she was a "key" part of the original Woodstock and Michael Lang lackey.

"Give us $150(in 1999) for this amazing, communal experience in 100 degree heat with little to no shade, pour out all of your water on the way inside, pay these insane concession prices and help out your fellow man by picking up this trash while your here."

ETA: One person that seems to be getting a pretty free pass on all of this for showing how little they cared about the people in that crowd is Anthony Kiedis. What a dick that no-talent assclown is.

If you watched MTV in the late 90s, it's not that hard to believe.

They still put on a great live show to this day.

90 is a hot day for Central New York. With 250,000 people, nothing but tarmac and no shade, yeah, it would be pretty fricking hot.

... truth.. but, he'd make a killing on only fans with that hog..

Watched it last night.. talk about a nostalgia trip.. Sadly I missed out on going.. But I had seen many of those acts live anyway.. but man what a party it was..

Also, Korn opening with Blind was perfect.. I can imagine the high you get from seeing that many people react to your music at once.

Just started watching it, but man, that looks miserable. I was never into drugs, or metal though.

I actually think they covered it appropriately. Have you watched the HBO doc from a year earlier? They spent an hour making it seem like there were 500 women with 249,400 white nazis and 100 black dudes gang raping them

I was 22 in 99 and I do imagine I would’ve keeled over from anxiety due to being elbow to elbow with that many people.

Worse yet, they opened the set with a Flea bass solo, but the sound was cut off…so instead of hearing a funky bass solo where the performer just happened to be naked, we were all subjected to floppy cock and no music. 23 years later I still wonder what the actual solo would have sounded like.

It’s hard to explain but they get helluva humidity up there

Went to the baseball HoF to see Biggio years ago in Cooperstown. High was 92 with humidity and I swear it was as hot as any Louisiana weather I’d ever been in

it was basically what we see in real life today and on our "news" programs .... people run with a collective GROUP THINK mentality, and that's it. that's the "truth".

Orange Man BAD!
Limp Bizkit BAD!
White Skin Color BAD!

etc., etc.
