The event producers did. Some media outlets certainly encouraged that. The film very explicitly did not.

Good watch. Didn’t see the HBO version.
Remember being bummed we couldn’t go to this - had a 1-year old at the time. Glad we didn’t go.
I think this encapsulates MTVs contribution to the destruction of American society more than anything.

Also. Woodstock 1994 member gets mentioned. All I remember about it was the mud fight videos.
That Green Day mud fight with all the grass before they got really big was pretty incredible. I remember at zephyrfest 95 we had a big one during the caufields set (bigger than Jesus now song).
I graduated HS in 99. I had a few friends who went to Woodstock. One of them is on the cover of a local paper up there tossing a table on a fire

I regret not doing something like a giant music festival in my youth when I had minimal responsibilities. The idea of getting fricked up, camping, and listening to great music would have been awesome.

Me too, baw!
I won a 3 day pass from the Reveille but only went on Sunday to catch QOTSA, APC, and White Stripes back to back to back. It was incredible.

Being there live for the first 2 days was the experience of a lifetime. 16 years old, F.U.B.A.R, in a sea of titties. It was glorious, for awhile.
Pics or it didn't happen

When people start acting like animals, they should be shot. You won’t have to shoot many for it to stop.

I have not watch the Netflix one yet. What sucked about the HBO doc was the people they had set up to apply 2020 views and logic to 1999. It was a different time. I don't agree with all of the behavior (sexual harassment or the riot) but we were not racist or toxic or privileged. We did not have social media and we were who we were and somehow most of us got along fine.

Shooting people would have likely made it worse and become a massive incident

Woke up at 4:30 this morning because my wife’s dog is a giant piece of shite. decided to watch this after the reviews here. Definitely recommend it. It totally captures that shift from 90s alternative to 00s Nu-metal douchebaggery. Plus, it has tons of full frontal nudity.

HBO did an awesome documentary on WS99 about a year ago interviewing some of the same people.
If this is the one produced by Bill Simmons and has Moby in it, it was a flaming pile of crap.
Limp Bizkit gets a bad rap for this considering weren't all the fires and destruction mostly on Sunday night?
Now Family Values tour - that was fun.

Yeah the HBO one was basically muh evil white men. And it was the RHCP who were playing when all the fires started, not Limp Bizkit.

I'm watching Kid Rock 99 set now. Good stuff.

I was only 14 and had just discovered nu metal that summer before starting HS. Parents said no to going before I even finished asking.

Haha. I'm showing my age, but I was in senior in high school when Nu Metal was huge and Woodstock 99. It gets hate, but I still play it haha.

That's all I have for music on my phone. Late 90s nu metal and grunge (happy grunge like Pearl Jam and Green Day).

This was a lot better than the HBO one. That Korn set when they’re coming on stage and the fireworks/flares are going off in the background of the crowd…holy shite, incredible.
John Scher is a true scumbag. He’s like a villain from a movie.

So is Michael Lang. He's the epitome of the type of person from his generation that I despise...60s "hippie" still wearing his ridiculously short tennis shorts and blazer from his 80s Yuppie days talking about his fricking "peace patrol" and profits.
