Yeah. I was surprised it wasn't in every post.

I like a good sad western. I’m a pretty positive, upbeat kinda guy but damn if a melancholy western doesn’t get me every time.
Dances With Wolves
Lonesome Dove
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Tombstone
Outside the box pick:
Red Dead Redemption 2 (a video game)
The story of the main character, Arthur Morgan, is as good as any cowboy movie I’ve ever seen. If HBO would make a season long series covering the events of this game and focus on characters and not just action, I honestly think it could be as popular as Lonesome Dove. It has everything. Action. Lost love. Betrayal. Revenge. Way more than just a game.

Is overrated. It’s not even the best movie of the Man with No Name trilogy.
That title goes to A Few Dollars More
Also, “They call me Trinity” needs an honorable mention.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
High Plains Drifter
The Outlaw Josey Wales
The Assassination of Jesse James...
The Wild Bunch
The Proposition
Fistful of Dollars (Clint westerns were big in my childhood)
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
The Searchers
Stage Coach
True Grit (2010)
The Long Riders
Tombstone
McCabe and Mrs. Miller
Little Big Man
My Darling Clementine
Such a great genre. Do No Country for Old Men, The Treasure of Sierra Madre, and Lone Star count because those are top notch too.

High Plains Drifter is better than 2/3 of the Dollars Trilogy.

I agree
And Pale Rider too

If we include that as an actual movie, that’s the GOAT
Buts it’s an unfair comparison

Liberty Valance is def in top five.
There’s also The Searchers( pretty grim, but good movie). Also, Unforgiven and Pale Rider.

I got into a big Spaghetti western kick a few years ago, my personal favorites besides the four big Sergio Leone films
My personal top 3:
Sergio Corbucci's The Great Silence (a must see, like no other Spaghetti western and heavily inspired the Hateful Eight)
Sergio Solima's The Big Gundown (beautifully shot, good story)
Sergio Corbucci's Compañeros (just a really fun Spaghetti, Jake Palance is so great)
Then my 2 favorite non-Spaghetti westerns already mentioned, but worth mentioning again:
The Wild Bunch (the final sequence is so amazing and batshit insane at the same time)
Blazing Saddles (obviously, one of the greatest comedies ever)

Tough to actually put a ranking on them. 2-5 could probably switch out depending on which one I watched last.
1. Once Upon a Time in Mexico
3. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
3. Tombstone
4. The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford
5. The Wild Bunch
The Searches, Liberty Valance, The Proposition, High Noon, Wyatt Earp, My Darling Clemintine, The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Have to have one of John Ford's cavalry trilogy:
Ft. Apache
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
Rio Grande

It’s mind blowing that Silverado has not been mentioned yet

Mind boggling? It's a top 5 all time list. There are very few people that are going to think Silverado is a top 5 western.

3 of my favorites:
The Long Riders (Listed Previously)
Jeremiah Johnson
The Man From Snowy River

Lots of good ones mentioned. It’s actually a wide ranging genre. There should be subcategories, although I don’t know how you’d categorize them.
One movie that’s a favorite of mine, but not necessarily a top 5 is Big Country. Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Burl Ives star in it, along with other names you might know.
Burl Ives was outstanding in his role. Practically Shakespearean.
