Any list without Lonesome Dove in it, is suspect!

Not really, Lonsome Dove is good, but there are some better western tropes that doo it better.

Outlaw Josey Wales is tge greatest western there has ever been! There is really no debate!

Good film, nowhere near a top five western though. 2 and 3 on this list should be 2 and 2A everything else is non negotiable.

1. Once Upon a Time in the West
2. The Wild Bunch
3. The Searchers
4. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
5. Tombstone

Lonesome Dove shouldn't be on any of these lists. The topic is top five all time Western movies, not Western miniseries.

I know it’s more modern day, but damned if Unforgiven isn’t worthy of mention here.

It's a good movie but any movie that bludgeons the audience over their head with its message automatically rubs me the wrong way to some degree no matter how well made it is.

The Westerner with Gary Cooper and Walter Brennen as Judge Roy Bean is a good one

The Searchers is a must watch [look for Festus (Ken Curtis) as a singing cowboy]

High Noon - Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly

River of No Return - Robert Mitchum and Marilyn Monroe

Flaming Star with Elvis as the son of a Kiowa mother and a Texan father

Hombre with Paul Newman

Stagecoach (the original)

Shane

The Shepherd of the Hills with John Wayne and Harry Carey, Sr.

Josey Wales has a lot of good, but also a fair bit of mediocre that gets overlooked.

I've always liked it a lot until he hooks up with the pilgrims and then kind of lose interest.

1. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
2. Once Upon a Time in the West
3. Outlaw Josey Wales
4. The Wild Bunch
5. The Searchers

I could probably flip flop 3, 4, and 5 depending on the week.
