It’s perfectly okay to be critical of the last few episodes of this series. It’s deserved
It is perfectly ok. But deserved? That’s an opinion and to turn it around makes you sound stupid.

He simply wanted his appearance in court to pop up on Kim's radar so she would be there to see him truly accept responsibility for his actions
Thank you. All the “he didn’t get Kim off the hook” talk is silly because that wasn’t even his purpose.
One question I have that I thought surely some of you here who can pull out the subtleties would have brought up:
When did he hatch the plan?

Still nobody would throw away a 7 year sentence for 86 years.
That’s too hard to take seriously

Great ending to a great series. Was it explosive, no. But it brought closure and was well deserved.

So I'm the only one that thought the bus scene with everyone singing and chanting "Better Call Saul" was cringe?
Posted on 8/16/22 at 7:10 am to peaster68
I know nothing about legal proceedings so maybe a dumb question...but is it normal for a life+109 year sentence to be reduced down to only 7 based on seemingly nothing more than "if this goes to trial I'll definitely get 1 juror to waffle"?
When they were adding up all the charges and saul was abotu to get started I figured he was gonna pull some fancy lawyer trick out of the hat and get some of them dismissed, but no. Just a speech (which I enjoyed, btw) and a threat of him being smooth in court?

A better finale would have been if he had went with the deal and got sent to the country club prison. As he’s getting off the bus it went to color implying that Jimmy/Saul will live on and in 7 years who knows?
This would have been perfect. I thought that's where they were going. In the end they finally got him but he found a way to snake 1 more deal. End it with her visiting him and them having a moment and smiling and her saying "see you soon".

I thought the implication was that he gave them information no details on WW’s dealings, etc and that’s what got the charges reduced.

You weren’t close at all. You were the polar opposite of close.
Sneaking in a comment on this thread to “eat crow” and then blipping back out?
Do better.

I like how the cigarette was color in a black and white scene. Like it was a throwback to a better time (for them).

Have to go back and watch, but think they were throwing out max sentences on each charge. So automatically reduce that by half/three quarters in normal scenario and then we don’t know the other dirt he spewed.
Yes, far fetched, but not impossible

I dont understand why the government always has a trial with multiple charges. Heck, Saul had 6 or so charges against him. Try him on two of the charges and hope he gets 30 years. If he gets that 1 juror he needs, try him for another charge with a new jury.

The prosecutor was also more willing to deal to not ruin his perfect record. They mentioned this.
I loved the ending but I can’t figure out when Saul decided to give himself up the way he did. Has this been his plan the entire time after Kim’s pay phone conversation? Or did he decide on the flight?
Regardless him taking credit for Walt’s empire and being a criminal defense attorney is going to make him a rockstar in prison lol. He still has his reputation in tact with “his” people. If he had confessed to a lower deal, he would have had a rough 7 years imo and had nothing to come out too. Basically be trapped in a giant Cinnabon. But at least now he can be himself and no longer hide.

I’m no legal expert but I think that would still be construed as double jeopardy. I would think Saul and/or Oakley could easily argue to have him tried on all charges in one trial.

That's my point though. It's deserved in that not everybody has to universally love the last few episodes. Yet people who were critical of them were shite on as "wanting shootouts and explosions" and stupid shite like that. My point is that the Gene episodes were a downshift from the quality of the series, so criticism of them is deserved.

And on top of that, they all know that as sleazy as Saul is, he's an EXCELLENT defense lawyer. And just a smooth talker/good bullshitter in general. HIm swaying at least one juror isn't really a stretch, and the undefeated attorney knew it.

IMO it was after he made the Howard play and got laughed at. At that point he knew the ace up his sleeve wasn't worth anything, and that coupled with the fact that Kim had already spilled the beans and admitted everything is what made him decide to "break good" so to speak.
I still don't like him throwing the 7 years away (for 86), but it's whatever I guess.

It’s a tv show. People will have their opinions but in the end it’s up to the writers. There’s only a couple of shows I can think of where it’s universally loved the way it ends.
I personally enjoyed the Gene timeline because it’s post BB. I was intrigued and on the edge of how it will end because we had no clue. I can easily see how the ending isn’t universally loved but I highly enjoyed it.

was anybody else disappointed we never got a transition from black and white to color? There were numerous times where it would’ve worked great, if just never happened. shite, it could’ve even happened when he told the judge his name was McGill instead of Goodman. I was big time disappointed in that.
Bc it was obviously just a time line thing. Post BB timeline was always black/white. Some of you thought it was a "Gene" thing, but it wasn't. So that's why it never happened.

Can anyone shed light onto what was going on in Breaking Bad during the flashback seen with Saul & Walt?

They were in the vacuum basement waiting to be moved.
