My maternal grandmother and mother died on Mother’s Day thirty years apart. Right now I couldn’t tell you the date either died. I don’t keep up with death dates. On the other hand, Mother’s Day is one of my least favorite days of the year. My sister is not a fan of the two generation trend either.

Most of the characters on this show are awful. The only one I don't loathe is Randall.

30-45 minutes? In the mid to late 90's? You flog that dude for a long time. A heroic dad in his 30's who walked in talking and dies on you? That is rare. You beat the shite out of that guy in a code.

One of my grandfathers died on Thanksgiving day. I have no recollection what the actual date in November was, just that it was on Thanksgiving. That side of the family never really celebrated a big Thanksgiving dinner afterward.

I don't think we know how much time went by. I'm going to watch again tonight. She had to go find a pay phone wherever that was located. I don't know if she got rooms on the first call or had to make multiple calls. Then, she was at the vending machine wherever that is. I'm wondering if they're going to go back and show us more of what went on when he died. That wouldn't be unusual. They tend to give you info and then sometimes go back and fill in more blanks.
I didn't find it odd that she took a bite of the candy bar. I think that was part shock and part "this isn't real". Denial.
I didn't cry. I'm not sure if it was the shock of how it happened or if, since I already knew he was going to die, it wasn't tear inducing or if I just wasn't as moved because of how it happened. Lots of hype for the show.
I still think Randall could end up with the little boy or a little boy.
The Tess in the future part was really interesting.
ETA: Mandy Moore says Tuesday's episode is more intense than last night's.

I was wondering how they were going to keep this show going seasons after Jack's death, and this seems to be it. When they first showed grown-up Tess last night, I thought to myself that looks like an adult Tess. But just thought it was a coincidence, guess not. They did a good job of casting that. Young Randall looks nothing like Sterling Brown.
I also thought I noticed the super bowl Rebecca was watching actually being last night's game, but I didn't pay near enough attention to the actual super bowl to know if that was correct. So glad someone here brought it up, that's pretty cool.

Now, to find the title and artist of the song played in the final scene. Google hasn’t helped so far.

When Jack is in the triage room, the clock is at straight up midnight. As Becca is on the phone at the vending machines the clock is around 3ish.
She said to the hotel clerk on the phone that she would explain herself again, indicating she was out there making calls to hotels for a while.
Mad props to the show for not finding a way to insert some janky Cat Stevens bullshite song into the episode, like they try to so often.

Sidenote- Has anyone else been impressed with Kevin this season? He's grown on me a bunch this season.

I'll consult Mrs Vox. It was getting late for me, and she obbesses over the show.

They should've just left it at him dying in the house. The relief then shock approach was a bit flat since everyone knows he dies.
Still a solid episode. Rebecca's lines and scenes in the whole episode were great, my $.02.

I found it odd that Jack Went to bed before the end of the game. No way a guy whose favorite day of the year is the superbowl going to turn in early and not watch the end.

Kevin is outstanding. The problem with S1 is that he was filming it while still playing a major character on Young & the Restless, so his accessibility was limited for TIU. Once it was a colossal smash, then he left Y&R, and the writers' shackles were off with respect to where they took the character.

It was a version of Labi Siffre's-Watch Me

The Super Bowl itself might have been relatively disappointing in the ratings. But NBC’s special episode of This Is Us definitely scored in the Nielsens.
Early numbers mark the weepy NBC drama as the most-watched post-Super Bowl entertainment telecast in six years — and that’s despite the big game delivering its lowest rating in eight years.
The overnights (a 16.2 rating in the metered-market households) were up 59 percent from last year’s disappointing premiere of Fox’s 24: Legacy.

Is it just me or has Randall been a little over the top lately?
I don't remember him being quite as eccentric in the first season, but I could be wrong. It's a minor annoyance, but it just doesn't seem like the younger Randall matches up well with adult Randall.
