Netflix's 'The Witcher' is one of the biggest shows in the US despite poor reviews from critics
...It's also one of the biggest TV shows in the US right now. "The Witcher," which debuted on December 20, was the third most in-demand original streaming series in the US for the week of December 18 to December 24, according to data provided to Business Insider by Parrot Analytics. It's behind only Netflix's megahit "Stranger Things" and Disney Plus' "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian."

3rd behind Stranger Things and The Mandalorian is pretty impressive considering that Amazon has also dropped new seasons of The Expanse, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Man in the High Castle in the same time frame.

That emphatically says that the critics are full of shite.

Had high expectations because I absolutely loved Witcher 3. One of my favorite games ever.
Show was absolutely nails. Wife loved it too but I did have to explain things a few times. Can see how it can be confusing. Can’t wait for season 2

Some of them have legitimate gripes. The show has some flaws but nothing terrible.
-CGI is really bad in spots
-Jumpy storyline (doesn't bother me but I get how it can confuse some)
-Geralt doesn't really fit a "hero" prototype by any means. He's a unique character to say the least, especially in a leading role.
-The dialogue is really REALLY shitty at some points.
-Music is overall solid but at the same time it doesn't feel right at times.
-The sets feel lacking somehow. IDK how to describe it but it feels really low rent.
The show feels like it belongs in that weird 90s period with Xena and Highlander. THAT SAID, I absolutely love it. Hopefully they can improve things season 2. It feels like everyone wants to compare it to GOT which is just ridiculous. Other than being kind of medieval fantasy they really don't have much in common.

That is NOT a legitimate gripe since the main character is EXACTLY as written in the source material.

Just finished. My only gripe but not really a gripe just a thing. Had to really pay attention to what/where was going on at wasn’t always easy.

How is this a gripe?

Everyone bitches when things don't follow canon, and apparently bitch when they do too.

This is pretty much my only gripe. Once the story showed that it was time-hopping and began tying things together around mid-season it made more sense and gave me a solid "Ohhhhhhhhh" moment. That they had a whole other level of that going on and you don't realize it until the last episode or so annoyed me more than anything. Doing it once a season is a great tool, doing more of it just makes it start to seem gimmicky.
I hope someone cobbles together the season in a chronological order, I would absolutely watch that.
Other than that, solid fricking show. And Yennefer looks fantastic with no clothes on.

We finished last night. Really enjoyed it, especially back half of the season once everything started to become more established.
I’m still a bit confused about Yennefer. I assumed she was going to be the “big bad” this season. I guess she could still develop into that, or is she just there to humanize Geralt? Guess I’ll find out later.
Also agree with the comments concerning the CGI and some of the dialogue. It did feel like a B Syfy show at times.
Anyways, looking forward to S2 and now kinda want to play Witcher 3.

Yennifer is a insanely powerful witch who spurned fate, and the argument is she could have curbed Nilfgaard's power. She's not a good person, but also not truly bad. She's similar to Geralt in that way.

the djinn scene with Yennefer and Geralt was cringy as frick

Yeah...I got that she was powerful. That was obvious.
I don’t know, I guess from the trailers I just assumed she would go bad and was waiting for it all season and it never happened.

Just finished the last episode. Overall I enjoyed it but was a tad disappointed as I had GoT expectations (excluding the last season).
I never played the games or read the books but knew a little about The Witcher and had alot of questions. That's my biggest problem with the show is that it didn't explain any of the lore and background of the Witchers. If the show runners are expecting their audience to have the book/game background that is a flawed assumption.
The multiple timeline thing was a bit confusing at first and think they should have made it more obvious.
Also, I don't know why all these new shows think that 8 episodes is the magic number. They don't have to sell commercials so no need for 20+ episodes but 10-12 should be the minimum.

They did it exactly how they did it in the books. That’s how the story is told. They aren’t assuming you know the story, they are allowing you to consume the story how it was built to be told

GOTs went down hill when they felt the need to spell everything out for the audience. That’s not good story telling if you have to assume your audience is too stupid to figure out the plot
