re: The Ringer's 100 best episodes of the century

I've never seen Fringe. Don't hurt me.
I like limiting it to one episode per show because it prevents an incredibly boring list of 30 Wire episodes and a dozen Mad Men episodes or whatever. The best hing about a good list is that it can spur you to check out something you're not familiar with.
The problem with one episode is sometimes you are forced between choosing between the most representative episode of a great show or the actual best episode. I love Black Mirror and I think San Junipero is clearly the best thing they've ever done. It's also an anomaly: an episode about love with a happy ending due to the magic power of technology. If I was only choosing ONE episode to represent the show, I'd be more tempted to take Nosedive or The Entire History of You. Or I'd throw my hands up and just go with the pure horror of Metalhead.

Not including White Tulip from Fringe basically invalidates the entire list.
I think when anyone says not including “X” on a best of list invalidates the list it would invalidates that persons comments on said list

Exactly.
If I made a list of my top 100 episodes, I have no problem admitting GOT and Breaking Bad would occupy a disproportionate share of the list.
I like the 1 show idea, but I also do understand that is then isn't really the 100 best episodes of the century.

An episode of Greys Anatomy and Survivor made it before the West Wing. That's all I needed to see about this list.

Started reading from #1 down and saw an episode of Breaking Bad made the top 10...behind an episode of the OC and Survivor. Didn’t read any further.

Apparently no one at The Ringer has ever seen The Shield.
I just realized this was already discussed, but I was shocked when they had the sidebars with best pilots and finales and The Shield was absent from both. And then no episode in the top 100.

First two seasons of Grey's Anatomy are great, don't deny it.

What the frick did I just subject myself to.
I've only ever listened to the occasional Simmons podcast and used to read some of his Espn columns.... But...holy dogshit... Are all pieces on that site written with such dripping self-importance and pseudo intellectual millenial gobbeldy-asian??
I found myself actually dumber by the 22-year-oldness of it all.
Example:
And the term "toxic masculinity" was not only used in describing Walt White... But they actually wrote it about a fricking Laguna Beach episode!!
Who actually reads this website with regularity and not throw themselves through pane glass?

The phone call where Walt embodies the sentient Reddit comment section he and much of the show’s fan base had become, branding Skyler an ungrateful bitch who’d only ever stood in the way of his manhood—a distillation of toxic, aggrieved-nerd masculinity that only grows more prescient by the day.

Not a single episode of Avatar made it either. You’d think that Crossroads of Destiny, Day of Black Sun, or Sozin’s Comet would have made the list.

Even if you accept the large percentage of gameshows/reality shows they put in there for no reason, their rankings just have no rhyme or reason. Someone tell me why random episode of jeopardy is a better piece of television than Remidial Chaos theory? Or a survivor episode is a top 10 episode of TV of this century?
It’s like they just structured it like they had to have 50 scripted shows, 25 game shows, and 25 reality shows and they stacked them randomly throughout

I’ve been following Simmons for a really long time. A lot of the things on the list that don’t make sense, like Survivor, Jersey Shore, The Challenge, came directly from him. The guy is a jackass that became popular because sports fans liked his style of writing, then his ego blew up and he thought this made him an expert on everything.

Was it the season 1 finale of Survivor? To be fair, that episode basically changed TV forever.

I just want to point out that there is an episode of Survivor and The OC ahead of Ozymandius on this list.
Ok.
Ok.

Way to many useless reality competition shows. So they chose a Futurerama episode thats not Jurassic Bark, I almost threw my computer across the room.

the parks and rec finale wasn't even close to its best episode, probably not even top 10
the choice for south park was also bad. I love that episode but again not near its best
The Dinner Party for The Office is a good pick....but the most iconic moments from that episode did not come from Pam

sorry, but any list that has episodes from The OC, Kardashians, and the Bachelor is garbage. What a terrible list.
Nah, it's a really good list if they remove all of the reality TV.

I agree.
Dwight showing up with his former baby sitter
Jan dancing to Hunter's song
Jan telling Pam that the food would be ready in 4 hours
Michael laying on the bench at the end of the bed and putting the video camera away
Michael telling the police he didn't want to press charges
Michael's reasoning for dipping his steak into his red wine "You know I have really soft teeth!"

I've only watched 14 of those series. Guess I have a lot of good stuff to look forward to.
