It’s definitely worth watching but as others have said it’s brutal and intense.. but it’s an accurate portrayal so it had to be that way.

If you want to know what true love is this Valentine's, watch that film and experience the dramatization of Jesus' ultimate love for us through his torture and sacrifice. No love has ever compared to the love of Christ.

Not a date night movie if you are looking for something to set the mood

If you’re interested, I would save it for Easter weekend.

It’s a movie I’ve only ever watched like every 4-5 years.

It’s brutal, but makes you appreciate what Christ went through. It’s heavy though, it’ll never be more than twice a decade type movie for me.

I went as an 8th grader in theaters, I think it was the first adult movie that had me crying after he’s on the rode to Golgotha. It’s powerful.

(I may have teared up as a kid a couple times can’t exactly remember (Mufasa dying etc, I’m talkin about an “adult” movie)

This. I was underwhelmed with the brutality. I was expecting way worse. In fact it’s quite mild, especially for a MG movie about his hero, where brutality is a pretty important aspect of the tale.

I always watched The Animated Passion for Easter. It’s basically a straight-to-video kids version of the Mel Gibson film

Watch it.

It’s a beautifully artistic portrayal of Christ’s last days. And yes, it’s very violent but that’s the point.

The scene where he drops the cross in front of his mother causing her to flashback to his childhood gets me every single time.

Probably the most accurate portrayal of what Christ went through. It is VERY intense and not your regular Hollywood Christ was crucified portrayal. Again, if you watch it, be prepared.

Thats what a lot of people had issue with, but it still was not as brutal as what Jesus actually went thru.

There’s not way to even know that, as historians struggle with even deciding exactly how crucifixions work. And I am skeptical any person could even stay conscious through a flogging by that intense. They’d go into shock.

I'm ready for the sequel, The Resurrection. Mel Gibson has been talking about it alot lately. I'm more excited for that movie than any sequel ever made.

Mel said he toned down some of the more brutal scenes.

Same thing with Black Hawk Down.

In the book, they beat that surviving pilot that crashed with the dismembered arm of his copilot.

Didn't show that.

I vividly remember one scene where the cat of 9 tails hits him on the side and it sprays blood all over the officials and the buildings

Unimaginable pain

I saw it last night, and I agree that it’s a beautiful film with a lot of artistic creativity implemented by Gibson. What I loved in particular was the lighting. For example, in the beginning of the film, when Jesus is being questioned by Caiaphas in the temple, the cinematography coloring has a gold hint to it. It felt like a Renaissance-style painting depiction of the Passion. Like something you’d see out of a Michelangelo painting.

To me, the definitive New Testament movie will always be "Jesus of Nazareth" currently streaming on Prime or Peacock.

"The Passion" is for sure worth a watch though. I will say, you need to mentally prepare for the graphic nature of this film.

Yes, go see it, but make sure to see the director's cut, cuz the blooper reel at the end is hilarious!
