I am in no way a Star Wars fanatic, but I enjoy all the movies
I personally thought this movie was terrible. I was bored and found myself playing on my phone 40 minutes in
Maybe this movie was more for the people who are truly invested in the series

You were playing on your phone in the middle of a movie in the theater?
Douchebag.

'While most of the movie kept me rapt while watching it play out, the big Back to the Future moment at the end of Rogue One pulled me right out of the experience and had me groaning. Bodhi Rook, a former Imperial pilot with strong technical skills now working with the Rebel squad, is trying to get a communication link open to the rebels above him, who have been shut out of Scarif by a big galactic gate surrounding the entire planet. And while trying to run cable from one position to the next, he runs out of wire just like Doc Brown at the end of Back to the Future, trying to get the cables set up for the lightening strike. '

I also thought TFA was a very weak film. It's actually gotten worse for me on rewatch.
Same here.
I've said before on this board that I like TFA less and less as time has gone on, and I wasn't that crazy about it to begin with.
I feel like people were falling all over themselves to throw roses at Abrams's feet for TFA for it "feeling like Star Wars" when in actuality they were just reacting to feelings of nostalgia in getting to see Han, Chewy, Leia, Luke, the Millennium Falcon, etc. again.
The movie was graded on a curve after Lucas completely shite the bed with the prequels.

I don't remember Galen by name
I feel like they said his name about 50 times. Being the brain behind the Deathstar I thought it was pretty memorable.

Was Saw the guy from the Clone Wars? Honestly just a guess.
Yeah. I do wish they would have done more with him.

If this is the quality of storytelling the new continuity has in store, I'm really eager for episode 8.
Also, man, I could've used a LOT more Donnie Yen.
And I'm glad to finally see Vader return to his fearful glory. But man, anyone else really notice JEJ's age in his voice perforamance? I hope the man is doing well.

you dumb then
Cassian was said multiple times as well. Pretty obvious that biased opinion you had before the movie started kept you from actually paying attention

yup
many of the biggest defenders admitted the last part, too

Not me. I have found TFA to be extremely rewatchable. The only part of the movie that dips is the rathtar scene. I watch it at least once a week.

So you decide to ruin the film for everyone else just because you didn't like it? You're an a-hole.

Nobody cares if you didn't like it. Go to sleep. Do an mst3k commentary in your head. Plot out your next groundbreaking screenplay. Sneak out to another movie. Binge on some popcorn and hot tamales. Any of those are fine. But playing with your phone is rude to everyone else.

Finally saw Rogue One yesterday and am reading through this thread afterwards to get a feel for some of the criticism and plaudits.
I thought the CGI for Tarkin wasn't bad. However, I could've done without CGI Leia talking. Her imagery was good but when she opened her mouth the CGI became obvious.
Mendelsohn's character wasn't really scary or foreboding, and Forrest Whitaker's character was completely pointless.
I thought they did a good job on making the rest of the characters engaging when you knew they were all probably going to die in the end.
The criticism for the score is pretty warranted. Even during the first 15 minutes or so I was telling myself that this music is pretty bad for a SW film. So it came as no shock to see that called out in this thread.
I thought JEJ's Vader voice was fine. I also thought that they gave enough Vader to satisfy the fans but not too much to where it'd spoil him.
The battle at the end was very well done and made up for a sluggish first half of the film.
In terms of the entire Star Wars saga, I'd put it a hair under the OT and above TFA:
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Star Wars
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Rogue One
5: The Force Awakens
6. Revenge of the Sith
7/8. AotC/tPM

Glad to see you're consistent in being a douche on all the boards.
Edit: And before you accuse me of saying you're a douche for not liking the movie, no, you're a douche for being on your phone during a movie and then trying to come in here and gloat about it like a 14 year old.

I simply thought the movie was very slow and methodical. I prefaced it by saying I enjoy star wars, but am in no way a fanatic. My lack of intricate understanding of the films could be why I didnt enjoy it. How is that gloating? Should I lie and say I liked the film?
