Same here. I think it might have to do with your ability to be empathic.

How many times did you guys see or will see Rogue One? How was it the second time through? I saw it once and am considering taking my boy to see it.

I just finished watching it again and still liked it. I find it much better than TFA.

I don't think there was any competition. Rogue One was way better than TFA. Not even close. Did anybody like TFA better?

Yes, and I'd venture to say most people did. TFA succeeded gloriously on the characters and emotion. Every new major character was pretty much a slam dunk on Abrams part. Rogue One there were a few badass scenes littered around a halfway boring sci-fi film. No character was really worth my investment.

If you had no previous context for TFA, it's great. If you have no previous context for Rogue One, you won't have any attachment. Like honestly, what would you think of Darth Vader? You wouldn't have a clue what he was about aside from being an evil badass.

I really don't think Rogue One will stand up months from now.

First of all, you could absolutely say the same thing about TFA. Second of all, you do have context. That's the whole point of the movie.

TFA is barely above the prequels. Yeah, I said it, wanna fight about it?

I would argue that Rogue One is slightly ahead of The Force Awakens which is slight ahead of Return of the Jedi.

I know there has been a lot of criticism of the soundtrack but I listened to a podcast today that focuses on Star Wars music and the host - whose a musician - made some pretty interesting points and pretty incredible connections between themes from A New Hope that are used in Rogue One. I'm not musically inclined but I found it fascinating.

Just saw it. My hot take:

Excellent visuals at different points, particularly with the Death Star.

Music was a little over the top at start, but settled down.

Understand it is a dark movie bur it could have used a hint more comic relief.

I have no idea what the names are for most of these new characters.

Cool seeing 3PO and R2 waiting to board.

Vader's castle was cool.

I also thought TFA was a very weak film. It's actually gotten worse for me on rewatch.

Seriously though, how many of you could name all the main characters in this movie when the credits rolled? How many can list them now without looking?

I agree with that, but they made some great characters. As you said, tell me the names of the characters in Rogue One. I can remember Jyn, the robot named after a mountain, and someone who sounds like Lando Calrisian (I'm honestly unsure what his actual name is).

You remember the names of every major character introduced in TFA. I forgive it because it made great characters. It's what I look for the most in a movie. If it has an amazing narrative or theme, then I can forgive a bunch of forgettable characters, but this didn't have it.

But consider Kylo Ren and simply what his lightsaber tells us about the character. It tells us that he's fairly untrained, volatile, short tempered, highly flawed, insecure, angry, and unstable. Darth Maul's lightsaber doesn't tell us crap about the character. Plus Rey's backstory being conveyed without a single word is great film making. Does Rogue One do anything close to being that well thought out or good?

Characters in TFA definitely better developed I think.

I would agree if it wasn't for the Throne Room scene in Return of the Jedi. That is my favorite scene in any Star Wars movie.

Just got out a little while ago and thought it was great. I enjoyed it more than TFA but I really enjoyed TFA as well.

Seemed to me they made a point to use the names of Jyn, Galen, Saw, Krennic and K-2SO(K-2) pretty consistently.

Chirrut was a badass Jedi who just hadn't been given the title officially because there were no Jedi around anymore to train him. He used the force very well and taught others about it. He was basically the blind Yoda but in a much less formal sense.

I don't remember Galen by name.

Was Saw the guy from the Clone Wars? Honestly just a guess.

I'll give you Krennic. I remember his name.

I liked that character but didn't think he wasa Jedi, just a believer who could have possibly become a Jedi earlier in life.

Speaking of the Jedi, it was interesting for me to see at this stage how they are completely gone from the scene. One can understand how they became a myth.
