Wonder Wheel scene was comedy gold, Shalhoub is so good.

Maisel’s arse was great outside that cab

First two episodes were great. Picked up right where they left off.

I do wonder though, why do they have the kids in the show? I mean both parents seem to ignore them for the most part entirely. Why write them in to begin with?

Probably just as another gimmick to highlight the wacky family dynamics. Same with the maid

We watch DIck Van Dyke show periodically and sometimes it’s painfully obvious that Richie solely serves as a plot device most of the time.

If there were no kids, there'd be no reason for Joey and his family to be on the show.

Ep3 has to be one of the best send offs I can recall. For those that don’t know, the actor that played Jackie died IRL. So the fact they dedicated majority of a full episode to a reoccurring but minor character and blended it in perfectly was expert writing.

The wife (no pics) loved the first three seasons but hasn't been thrilled with this season due to what she sees as MM being more angry overall. The whole thing with Abe getting jealous really annoyed her as it seemed to be too much of a reach for her. She would rather it ended with S3 and her flying off with Shy Baldwin into the sunset with the assumption of having a great career and all.

I've tried explaining "character arc" to her but she's a bit too impatient for arcs.

I haven't really watched it until this season (mainly because I was in the room when she was watching) and while I agree with the Abe thing, I'm enjoying watching her rebuild herself and her career.

I mean you have to have some kind of conflict to keep it going. Joel served as that early on but now he’s settled. And progress is almost never linear in life.

She needed some humble pie.

I’m actually way more invested in the other characters this season rather than Midge, which has been kind of the opposite for me for the other seasons besides Suzie and Joel. I get the character progression for Midge but they’re losing me with her running the club.

I get why they’re doing it and maybe if it was done a little better, gave her more interesting things to do at the club then I’d be more invested. But for now, I kind of tune out when Midge is at the club. Hell the best scene there is when Lenny came back.

ETA: anyone else think this season ends with Suzie and Midge splitting apart until they reconcile in the final season?

I think the show has lost its way. The peak was the Catskills episodes.

This show has become more about the other characters if not more than Midge.

This part of her arc kind of sucks and she really isn't very funny. Yeah, I said it.

I don’t think the show has lost its way but I definitely think they wrote themselves into a corner with Midge being bounced by Shy and his team. It was definitely the right move, introducing some conflict, giving her a setback and knocking her down a peg. I also think they know where they want to end the show and maybe wanted to end it earlier than Season 5, maybe even this season but they were told to stretch it out. Because a lot of the storylines just don’t seem as natural as the previous seasons.

But what they’ve given her to do this season in order to work through her failure is just falling flat for me too. Outside of the first two episodes, this season is pretty lacking for me as far as Midge is concerned. Suzie and Joel’s arcs are way more interesting with Abe and Rosie just being Abe and Rosie. I also feel like they’re suffering without some other characters to play off of. All the previous seasons Lenny, the doctor guy Midge dated, Sophie Lenon, Shy and his manager, every season brought something new and interesting to the table. This season…not so much and honestly, a lot of our characters are running their course as far as being interesting and having interesting stories to tell outside of Midge and Suzie and one of those stories being told is just flat out boring at this point.

I’m also wondering if the pandemic changed some things they wanted to do or has affected the show runners at all

Why aren’t Midge and Lenny together?

I don’t like Joel’s girlfriend. He and Midge need to get back

Jason Alexander was great in Ep4
