It was definitely the right move, introducing some conflict, giving her a setback and knocking her down a peg. I also think they know where they want to end the show and maybe wanted to end it earlier than Season 5, maybe even this season but they were told to stretch it out. But what they’ve given her to do this season in order to work through her failure is just falling flat for me too. Outside of the first two episodes, this season is pretty lacking for me as far as Midge is concerned. Suzie and Joel’s arcs are way more interesting with Abe and Rosie just being Abe and Rosie. I also feel like they’re suffering without some other characters to play off of. All the previous seasons Lenny, the doctor guy Midge dated, Sophie Lenon, Shy and his manager, every season brought something new and interesting to the table. This season…not so much and honestly, a lot of our characters are running their course as far as being interesting and having interesting stories to tell outside of Midge and Suzie and one of those stories being told is just flat out boring at this point.

I’m also wondering if the pandemic changed some things they wanted to do or has affected the show runners at all

The weird thing about this season for me has been the fact that Midge hasn't been funny, and she really hasn't even truly done standup this season hardly at all. Not once have they had a scene with her going out and just killing it onstage. Her set in the opening of the first episode of the season was just a long, unfunny rant about getting revenge.

I'm out on Midge's scenes at the club. They're not funny, I don't care about any of those characters, and I don't really care about her shaping up a poorly run burlesque show. It also doesn't feel like it does anything to really advance her career.

Like you, I'm much more invested in others' scenes this year, particularly Joel and Suzie. It feels like they're trying to branch her off from Midge with this continuing conflict between the two of them, first with Suzie and Midge's money and then with Midge taking Suzie to the bar.

Simply put, after 4 episodes this season just seems disconnected and aimless. It doesn't feel like there are any prolonged storylines that tie together. It just feels like a bunch of one-off episodes, sort of like Seinfeld.

I remember telling my wife when we watched the previous season (before we know what was coming) that it felt like they were at a crossroads. They couldn't have her go on tour with Shy because they weren't going to split up all the characters, but it also felt like they'd be backed in a corner if they had to stay in NYC.

I would like to know who’s paying for a massive apartment, live in maid, fancy meals. No one is making much money. I know they talked about Midge getting credit every where. I guess we are to expect a big pay day.

Too much of the parents, very annoying. Susie is the best character on the show.

Quite a bit happens in latest 2 episodes.

Maisel can't keep her mouth shut and go with the flow. She isn't funny enough to have an attitude or the ego they wrote for her.

I'm going to say she is actually the least likeable character.

She bought it from his dad, using the contract as the collateral.

She would rather it ended with S3 and her flying off with Shy Baldwin into the sunset with the assumption of having a great career and all.

I've tried explaining "character arc" to her but she's a bit too impatient for arcs.

I haven't really watched it until this season (mainly because I was in the room when she was watching) and while I agree with the Abe thing, I'm enjoying watching her rebuild herself and her career.

I tend to agree with her. So often, series go downhill. Abe is bothering me a lot so far. Especially when it's Midge's apt and her parents act like it's theirs.

But, I do love the Joel and Mai storyline. That might be a lot of fun. I loved drunk and angry Lenny and I always love Jane Lynch. So I'm good with another few seasons.

Why do I keep calling him Joey! One of the best things about him is how he so wanted the stay at home wife and 2 kids, etc. but he ended up with comic, Midge, and now Med student Mai! Y'all can all hate on Mai all you want, but I think it's a great storyline and I love it! Y'all just don't like it because she doesn't look like Midge or Imogene!
