Yea I'm trying to watch all of Rebels before Ashoka drops, just to learn about Thrawn, and I've made it to episode 4 of the first season and it's tough to power through.
I was the same way.
Power through. You won’t regret it.

Andor, Rebels and Rouge One are the gap filler for RotS to ANH
Not really as the gap was 19 years and these shows basically covered the last 5 years before New Hope.
The Mandalorian is taking place 25 years before Rey is introduced and all the new shows are happening shortly after ROTJ.
I think the goal is to create a universe when the main focus not on Luke or the Jedi which so far has happened.

Now about that Shadow Counsel -
Thrawn is too large a character to setup and destroy before the events First Order. He has zero mention in all 3 sequel movies and in the casual movie only SW fan does not even exist.
Thrawn is basically Second in Command for Palp and the overall plan for the Empire to return. The Shadow Counsel is basically a faction of remaining Empire warlords trying to retain power with many not realizing Palp will return.

This is never the justification. It's because they equate animation to children's entertainment, and dismiss it on that lone characteristic without any consideration for the writing. Rebels and Clone Wars were geared towards kids, yes, but it still has really good character development and deep themes that are executed very well.
Clone Wars and Rebels created one of the best story arcs for a character that saw limited time on the big screen but due to those two shows Darth Maul could have an stand alone incredible series.
Ashoka was also created by those 2 shows but her story continues where Maul had come full circle.

OK, add Bad Batch and final season of CW here. Now we covered 6 years.

Not for your casual SW fan. Anyone that has not watched Rebels (which is most SW fans probably), has no idea who Thrawn is. He exists in books, mostly EU now. Canon from Rebels and Mando season 2&3.
He does not exist in any of the 9 movies and is absent from canon video games release so far.
Tarkin out ranked Thrawn and Thrawn was gone before Tarkin died.
They need to have a solid plan to have Thrawn be the big bad guy, because they messed up with Snoke. Thrawn needs to be mastermind behind Palps return and true lingering enemy or needs to be absent during the events of sequels. I still do not like to buy into the Thrawn is team Palp and super loyal. It goes against his origin story some and the Chiss superior intelligence background. Thrawn was smarter than Palp, once he was removed from the board he would have no reason to resurrect him.
Simple enough, if the Empire focused more on the advanced Tie program that Thrawn was doing, the death star may still be a thing.

Team Gideon - who or what is he cloning? There are cloning tanks in his base but he specifically said he isn’t interested in Necromancer. Seems threatened by Thrawn’s name drop but also wary of Hux. I was thinking they were possibly setting up Snoke as an alternate cloning attempt by Gideon instead of a stepping stone in Necromancer to get Palp, but it doesn’t explain Hux Jr’s loyalty to Snoke and the versions of Snoke in ep 9 opening.
I agree RE: Gideon seemingly being the originator of Snoke. Perhaps the Hux faction expropriates the Snoke project from Gideon at some point, similar to how Tarkin screwed over Krennic with the Death Star.

If there's any justice to the universe, Thrawn will be around as the Big Bad in SW for the better part of a decade.

And how much longer before we find out Grogu is a clone of Yoda which they are clearly setting up since there’s a dude in the previews for Ashoka that’s clearly a Jorrus C’Baoth analogue?
Grogu was at the Jedi temple on Coruscant to be trained as a Jedi when Order 66 went down. The Jedi Council was unaware of the existence of the Kaminoan cloning program and the clone army until the troops were adults and ready for combat. Grogu would've been 20 or so at time time of Order 66, which made him older than the clones. If Yoda himself was cloned, I think he'd have been aware of the existence of the clone army on Kamino from the beginning.

The finale episode is rumored to be 38 mins long. Lol

I miss the Jedi. To me, Jedi vs. Imperials is the whole basis for SW. But that's because SW is the OG trilogy, not all the other crap they've added on. I thought with Grogu we were getting back to that with his training as a Jedi. I like him sticking with his "daddy," but he should still be encouraged to use and develop his powers.

Well that's not happening. I will not watch animated series.
I’ve started watching Rebels and honestly, it’s some of the best stuff the Star Wars property has out. You’re selling it short.

quote:The problem with that is they wrote themselves into a corner with Grogu's age and his species slow aging process. He's 50 years old and Yoda lived to be around 900, so Grogu is practically a toddler/pre-schooler at this point and it'll be another century or so before he's the equivalent of a teenager.

ETA: wouldn't be surprised if Grogu is a big part of the new movie they announced with Daisy Ridley. Rey rebuilding the Jedi order about 15 years after episode 9. So Grogu would be a 90 year old child by that timeline. At least by then he should be able to talk

so why the hell isn't he already talking then?
he should be about the equivalent of a 5 year old human at this point
a 50 year old that lives to 900 is equivalent to a 5 year old that lives to 90.

I thought this season was pretty mediocre, but the last episode was fire. With the bad bunch having a mediocre season, it was like a job watching both every wed.
last episode has given me hope for rest of season of mandalorian.

Good episode. I enjoyed it at least. Does make me wonder a little bit about some of the odd sidelines throughout the year.

The finale was a bit underwhelming.

Final episode did a great job of cleaning it up for the most part.
Season 4 should be back to what we were use to in 1 & 2.
There is rumored to be a show coming on Mandalore so I think the episode set the tone for that one.
Season 4 has already been written but not sure how excited I am about a movie coming for it.

I’m pretty sure they are turning the Rangers of the Republic into season 4. That’s how it’s already written. As for the movie, I don’t think that’s planned until 2029 or 2030
