I like the story so far, but the episodes are so short that it's hard to really savor it. If the seasons were longer, I wouldn't mind, but we seem to be living in a really lazy era for TV producers.

When you consider after this season The Mandolorian will have over 11 hours of runtime compared to the 9 movies having "only" 19.5 hours of runtime that puts it in some perspective. That is equal to more than 2 full movies a year and while there are some differences in scale the production value is just as high as the movies. Two more seasons of The Mandolorian and the total would be close to all 11 movies.

I'm not sure "saved" is the appropriate terminology here.

I was thinking Palpatine had him safe somewhere for testing when Anakin went into the temple. He somehow escaped that and Mando was hired to find him.

Man I had my doubts but they absolutely nailed Ashoka

I had zero doubts. Ahsoka is Filoni's creation and baby. No way he was going to let anyone frick her character up.

Yep. I'm thinking he was intentionally kept alive.

Comparing run time to the movies is irrelevant. Seasons of shows have traditionally been much longer. Star Trek TNG for example typically had 24 1-hour episodes per season. Even when you trim off the commercial time, that's still about 3 seasons of this show.

And while TV production value has improved, it's still not on par with cinema. The Mandalorian costs about $15 mil. per episode. That's very expensive, but still only $120 mil. per season. TRoS alone cost 275 mil. not including marketing.

So no. They're just trying to make more with less. Audiences have shown that they'll tolerate 8 episodes of half hour shows as a "season" so they can make more with less.

Three notable masters were revealed as living in one of the Darth Vader comics in the current cannon.

Coleman Kcaj, Oppo Rancisis, and Quinlin Vos are all alive as of a report given by the Inquistors to Darth Vader. It is possible one of them is alive after the fall of the Empire.

Kcaj is an Ongree. I dont know anything about him in current cannon, but he was on the Jedi Council. I dont know how Ongree age, or how old he was at the time the Purge began.

Vos was a Kiffar which age like humans. He would be in his late fifties to mid sixties in the Mandalorian time frame. He might be too old given th lifespan of the Yoda species.

Rancisis is a Thisspiasian which have long lifespans of several hundred years. It is possible that he hid Grogu during the fall of the temple with the hopes that he and Grogu could outlive the Empire and rebuild once the Emperor and Vader were gone.

The western formula is what I like about it.
Some people just love to bitch.

I don't think learning about his past changes much. If anything it reinforces where this is headed, Mando becoming Grogu's primary caretaker. Grogu is a homeless war orphan like Mando. Mando won't be able to leave him.

Does this board like that name? Everyone else I’ve talked to think it’s pretty awful. I won’t ever call him anything but the child.

I’m sure people will bitch but I don’t see a problem. Yoda isn’t much better. Mace, Anakin, Palme, etc..

You called him the child? Why not just say baby yoda like everyone else?

But calling him Baby Yoda is very fitting for that lil dude!

Yes!

Filoni just took a massive dump on Kennedy, Johnsons and Abrams.

And for only $15 mil The Mandalorian shits all over the sequels even with that huge budget.

yep, I love the western feel and I wasn't even a huge fan of westerns. The Lone wanderer/explorer stranger in a strange land aesthetic is really pleasing.

This season, to me, is all about Mando becoming the father figure in “the kid’s” life. Last season Grogu stayed in his floating bassinet. This season Mando holds him several times over his shoulder and pats his back. Like a father does to his baby son or daughter. Mando also carries Grogu in a satchel when he is not in his bed. This is all very indicative of a father caring for his baby. This is what Ahsoka notices and why she can’t train Grogu. The fear she senses from Grogu is his attachment to Mando and his desire to stay with him and never be alone again. This is very similar to Anakin’s attachment to his Mother and Padme and ultimately leads to his downfall. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Just finished it. Great episode. Great seeing Ashoka.

So if they really wanted to, they could adapt the Thrawn trilogy. The backstory is already there. What’s Timothy Zahn doing right now?

Any chance Ezra is who comes calling?

Also, Mando feels like he can’t leave Grogu because Mando lost his parents as a child but the Mandalorian were there for him. He has the be there now for Grogu. This is the way.

Busy writing part 2 of Thrawn: Ascendency. Book 5 of his canon Thrawn novels. They are better than the EU ones.
