Obsesssion kicking its butt is nothing new.
all we have in theatres now are Family
movies, big action block busters and indie horror movies
Everything else is few and far between.

An indie horror movie should not be mopping the floor with a Star Wars IP release.

I took my 8yr old son this weekend. We both enjoyed it. It was a fun father/son action flick with a Star Wars theme.
With that said, I wouldn't put another Star Wars anything in a movie theater for the rest of time. The audience these movies are intended for will never be happy with anything and the days of anything dominating a box office are done. That's just not how people consume movies anymore.

TFA was widely loved by Star Wars fans, despite it's flaws, until TLJ eviscerated it.

Fitting end to the Kennedy era.

This one was definitely aimed at kids. It was one of the biggest movie/toy campaigns I've seen in a long time.

This board had fights everyday about TFA just being a rehashed New Hope. That shite went on for months.

Just got out of it. I enjoyed it for what it was. Seemed like could’ve been two hour and half episodes on Disney plus.
Shakari beat goes hard though

I can definitely say that whoever wrote the Boba Fett show has no clue what people liked about Star Wars or Boba Fett.
That was the biggest pile of trash ever.
As much as I hated the Obi Wan show and it had some terrible writing, at least it tried.

There's about 1,000 nautical miles between the best and worst Star Wars projects. Plenty of room for good projects that people generally don't hate. Disney (and LucasFilm) have made DEI and mass appeal their main objective over good stories and the product has suffered greatly because of it.

TFA sucked too just on a much small scale than the two that came after it. Its mediocrity shows just how easy it would have been for Disney to clean up on the franchise rather than running it into the ground. They had a license to print money and screwed it all up.

I'm very picky and this movie was Excellent.
The story line was strong.
The characters were endearing.
The music was really good.
The special effects were fantastic.
You get little bits of nostalgic hits from the original movies (Empire etc) and the second wave (Attack of Cones etc) in certain scenes.

The fact that Obsession is kicking its arse might be good for movies in general. We don't need a big budget CGI fest with shite writing.

Obsession - shot in 20 days in Alabama by a 26-year-old YouTuber with no stars in the cast - is now eyeing a $250 million+ box office finish. that's a return north of 300 times its budget. It's already the highest-grossing release in Focus Features history.
Hollywood keeps insisting you need $200 million, a pre-sold IP, and a marketing budget the size of a small country to make a hit. Then a guy with a camera, a wish-granting toy, and three weeks in Alabama out-earned all of them on a rounding error of their catering bill.
The most profitable movie of the year cost less than a single second of screen time in the average blockbuster. Turns out audiences never wanted the budget, they wanted a good movie.

We need more movies from famous Youtubers. Maybe a Logan Paul movie is coming next

Looking for 100% approval of anything on the internet is a pretty absurd standard.
Before TLJ, 99% of SW fans were behind it. The TLJ threads before the leaks were almost all overwhelmingly positive.
TLJ made TFA bad, so opinions changed drastically after that one. . .and so did the retconning of fan opinions

it wasn't good even at the time if objectively analyzed, but people were excited. I liked it more than I should have considering I was very excited before TLJ released.
it never should have focused on Rey as the main character in the first place, that was always a girl boss bullshite move. It should've been a story about grizzled Han, wise Luke and statesman Leia.
Luke would be primary with Rey as his apprentice, which would lead to conflicts with Kylo, Luke has to save Rey's arse at the end to avoid Kylo slaying her in the snow..
She'd be built up throughout the trilogy, but they decided they needed to make an example out of Luke instead and ruin the entire IP instead
