Finished Ep.8 last night... thought the whole Viola backstory was a little too tame... sleep, wake, walk and forget over and over... they could have done better

When she was alive and they wanted to show her angry side it was just a few slaps on the sister... they could have written in so much more internal anger and really play on the emotional toll of not seeing her daughter WAY more...but no... just a little slap

The romance with the gardener made no sense. Even if the gardener was a dude it wouldn’t have worked.

Lost some steam after the Hannah episode. Once the Quint-Jessel storyline Was explained, I was pretty much done.

Maybe if it was completely independent of Hill House I wouldn't have had expectations about it being scary,

For me, I wasnt expecting it to be Hill House or maybe I was subconsciously. idk

I know a few people who liked Bly a lot but most didnt see Hill House.

Hill House = GOT S1-5

Bly= GOT S8

Explain to me the uncle. Why was his "ghost" talking to him? I assumed he was dead since this was going on but it turns out he was alive the whole time.

That was confusing and I’m not sure if they wanted to have a big red herring in there or so what. But if you watch with the closed captions on, they label him as “alter ego.”

Id compare it more to True Detective. The first season was a masterpiece to many and there was no way a second season was going to measure up, but the season as a stand alone entity wasnt bad by any means. It just needed a different name.

Spoilers.

So, the Lady of the Lake walks, almost nightly, through the house, gets mud everywhere, kills anybody in her way, and walks back. Got it.

So she's been doing this almost nightly for 500+ years? We know that Henry and his brother grew up there. We know that Miles and Flora were raised there.

Did none of the parents ever see her??? Did they not get tired of mopping mysterious mud every day? If they knew about her (how could they not?) how could they raise their family knowing the murderous ghost would prowl the house on a regular basis?

(She walked at least 4 times that I can count in the short time Dani was there.)

This. She went to the parents' room every so often and they didn't know about it? What about when Henry was in there with Charlotte while Dominic was gone? I'm sure Flora slept in that bed sometimes too and would be subject to being abducted. There are lots of things to nitpick but this to me is the biggest.

Wife and I finished watching last night, we had watched Hill House before which I found much better and creepier. Some thoughts:

I really hated the off-tone shoehorned lesbian love story that they ended with, just didn’t care at all. And what’s the deal with all the lesbianism, Hill House had a big lesbian role too, is there a writer or something who is big on this?

Mark from the room is in it (lol)

I usually like less of the ghosts or monsters being shown in something but I think Hill house showed just the right amount of their ghosts and bly didn’t show enough, especially of the plague doctor, which could have been creepy as hell.

There’s some big plot holes that others have mentioned, like why others haven’t seen the lady in the lake yet, etc.

It was very talky and drawn out, some episodes could have had 15 minutes either trimmed off or filled with more ghosts

Overall I enjoyed it, but definitely not as good as Hill house.

I’m way behind in this, but one of my friends moved from England to the Appalachian part of Ohio when she was a kid. She still has her English accent but her younger sister doesn’t.

I just finished the second to last episode...

So far, this season pales in comparison to the first season

My 2 cents.

I enjoyed it but it's not remotely a horror story. And it wasn't nearly as good as the first season in terms of quality direction and storyline.

The Haunting of Hill House was better executed but it also leaned more heavily on the thriller/horror part of the story to really play out the plot. It was a legitimate ghost story even if some of the ghosts were ghosts of another kind. Bly Manor was more a series of dark love stories woven together with some horror elements. So I think it's maybe unfair to compare the two in terms of which is the better horror story because they weren't both horror stories. I do think it's fair to compare quality of program to quality of program though.

I thought the Owen/Hannah love story was the best written one of the bunch. And for me, it was more emotionally poignant especially at the end when they talked about the care in which Owen took to make sure she was "taken care of" in death. I cried. Hannah was probably my favorite of the characters and picked up that something was "off" about her when she refused to eat or drink in the first episode.

I thought the Viola background episode was just "ok" and they missed the mark. Which is a shame as you had some decent acting in it. And the fading faces bit, while an interesting concept, just made it seem like a bunch of mannequins running around and that wasn't really scary to me.

I just couldn't get emotionally invested in Dani/the Gardener. There was something "off" about the relationship to me and not because it's lesbian.

The actor playing Peter Quint was on point.

This. That guy is gonna be a star. He should've been Moon Knight.

To me, it lost any air of spookiness when they're all standing around in the attic. The more we saw Rebecca and Peter, the more they lost the suspense and mystery.

Critical Drinker nails it once again.

Hill House was a wonderful scary spooky fun ghost story.

This is a romance with a little bit of some ghosts. And it really bogs down in the middle no matter what type of story it is. Then it gets a big flash back to help explain it all since it was meandering so badly.

It's not a bad story. But it's certainly not a good ghost story.

Finished it last night. Was enjoyable over all but a pretty big step down from Hill House, which was fantastic. I agree with most of the complaints here.

The main protagonist, Dani, just isn't very likeable or interesting.

Damn he really did nail it

That’s every thought I had taken directly out of my brain. Especially all the epilogue stuff he talked about

Ok if it was jamie the gardner at the hotel in the end, why did she go back to the room and fill up the bathtub and sink and then open the hotel room door and just sit there?

The facial expressions of the girl that plays Dani are so over the top and off-putting. Something about her mouth makes her hard to watch. It bothered me in Hill House too, her acting is a tad too dramatic.

Anyone else notice she forgot to put her fake booty on starting in episode 7?

Just finished this last night, and I thought it was pretty meh in the end. It was fine, held my interest and I enjoyed most of the actors, but it was pretty bland. Hill House had me shook. I’d give bly a 5/10 whereas hill house was around an 8/10 for me.

I did love flora though. She was GOAT.

The actress that plays flora does the voice for Peppa Pig, for those of you with kids.
