It’s actually a good plot line. I don’t want to give spoilers so I won’t get into the details. But how else could you write that narrative without making the main character come off poorly?

Full disclosure, I’m only on E7 so perhaps I haven’t seen the full story.

It’s been pretty good so far, i don’t think it is to the level of hill house. It had potential to get to that level. I would go with more back story making the house the focus. I would have moved that along episode by episode while also driving the show along. I feel like they were trying to slow burn the paranormal aspect of the house though. The long post with spoilers really nails some of the issues I have seen so far.

I will give them at least this the use of her being a lesbian does help drive her haunted past. The issue for me is since Netflix has it in every single show they make it is kind of a lazy plot line.

The kids are the top two actors and have really nailed their roles. Quint is absolutely great in his role.

One thing I have noticed is a couple of times the candles keep bouncing from side to side in the church scenes

I want to watch girls kiss I can go to a porn site. I really don’t care if a character is gay or not but it’s annoying as hell to force it in to every story. Why can’t they just write something competent?

There’s a difference in a character being gay just to shoehorn it in, and a character being gay making sense for the story.

What we have here is an example of the latter. Her sexuality makes sense in the story and it isn’t forced at all.

How come no complaints about the Jessa and Peter love storyline? Or Hannah and the sous chef? What about the mom (don’t know her name) and her affair with her brother in law? Are they “forcing” these? Of course not - all these stories make sense.

You come across as one of those people who claim you aren’t homophobic and don’t care if someone is gay but anytime you see gay representation it’s “being thrown in your face” regardless of the circumstances behind the use of it

No I clearly stated it’s more the issue that Netflix crams it in. I even said at least this one has some reason, but it is a bit lazy when series after series shoe horns it in.

Perhaps I shouldn’t penalize them since this one is used in the story.

SPOILERS:

I enjoyed it, but it was far from perfect. The plot was mostly a variation on The Turn of the Screw, with some plot points from other Henry James works mixed in. The Turn of the Screw is a psychological ghost story where you aren’t really sure if the house is haunted or not. The best versions of the novel, i.e. The Innocents, follow this format. Bly House forgoes that. Dani isn’t crazy, and Quint and Miss Jessel’s ghosts are real. I’m not sure why they felt the need to add the character of Viola when Quint and Jessel have always been the story’s evil antagonists.

The kid has a Monster Squad poster in his room. This season gets a thumbs up from me just for that.

***spoilers***

I understand the nanny gave her life up by flying back to england and drowning herself but i was confused about her being at the hotel and the wedding.

Also annoying how Netflix has to jam a gay or lesbian scene into every show. They just jam it on in story be dammed.

I wonder how much criticism a show like The Wire or Sopranos would get on here if they were released today

I enjoyed it. It wasn't close to as good as Season 1, but it was better than 90% of Netflix or network TV. I love how they unfold the mysteries as we go along with it, it's perfectly made for a full season. The imagery was great, and it was creepy, if not scary. That said, the main girl went from charming and tragic in the first season to annoying and shrill in this. Kids were great in their roles. Owen and Hannah were very likeable characters. Wish this was a yearly program like AHS- but not complete garbage like AHS.

That wasn't Dani, that was Jamie the gardener.

THIS.

I actually enjoyed the Viola backstory. Kate Siegel (Mike Flanagan's wife) was looking like she could've been Gal Gatdot's sister in her episode.

I finished this and enjoyed it. I like Hill House more, but thought this was overall a good show.

Do we have autistic viewers who were on background ghost-counting duty? I hardly saw any, and more than a few were obvious during Hill House.

I was confused as to why Dani's ghost was at the hotel. Wouldn't she be stuck at Bly forver???

Just finished episode 7

Only reason I’m gonna finish this is bc I’m watching it with the SO and we both feel pot committed

The plot is so incoherent and redundant. It’s exhausting.
