The Ghost and The Darkness (1996)

One of my favorite movies from my childhood (along with Jurassic Park). Watched it over the weekend for the first time in probably 10 years, and I still think it's a damn good movie.
Critics seem to have hated the movie. There is definitely a nostalgia factor for me. Is it a good movie or do I just have shitty tastes?

Loved it. And because it is a period piece based on true events, I think it holds up well.

Very rewatchable movie.
Crazy that the two lions are at the field museum in Chicago
Every time I watch that movie... I’m reminded of alfreds speech about the bandits and he tells Batman.. we burned the forest down... as they burn the bush and grass down to see the lions better .

Saw it in the theater, it was the first movie I took my ex-wife to go see. Excellent movie. In retrospect, I wish the ex had been eaten by a lion.

Jesus
And yeah, I think its held up well. The lions still look very realistic, and actually I think most of the scenes were filmed with real lions

I've always liked it, and I've seen the lions at the Field Museum in Chicago. They have no manes, and look a lot like females. Much of the movie is fictional, like the fact that Remington was not a real person, but the bizarre predatory behavior of the lions was 100% legit. Patterson really did discover human skulls piled up in a cave the lions shared, and the two really did pull people out of tents in the night.

I actually Love this movie.
I got to see the actual lions in the field museum in Chicago. It was pretty exciting

Odd story about this movie.
Many years ago I bought it on DVD. Everything about the packaging and disc artwork was as you would expect it to be. Even the menus were correct, but when you pressed play, it played the movie Ghost with Swayze and Demi Moore.
I was pissed. ??

The movie was and still is badass. I honestly think it's a modern classic that gets overlooked. I don't even know how to describe it...it's part horror, part adventure, part drama.
And they pulled it off...meaning, it's not camp. So easy for this type of movie to just delve into camp. But they were able to sustain that serious tone. It's Jaws on land.

Awesome movie. It had it all: action, adventure, suspense, humor, a woman and child getting speared by a lion...

Lowkey excellent. Scared the shite out of me as a kid.
Peak Kilmer was excellent. Wish we’d gotten more of him before that period where he got sick and lost his way.

One of those movies I can watch over and over, like Tremors.

Some stand-up comic did a bit incorporating that sentiment. Big invasion or expedition being planned and from the back of the troops boarding transports-"Will they be serving whiskey when we arrive, or a least a few pints of beer? If not then you'll not be having the services of Paddy Flynn!"
BTW, I think this should go along with any viewing of Ghost .

Here is an article from a few years ago that delved into why the lions may have attacked humans -- dental hygiene. Also, for those saying that the lions are small, I remember reading at some point that the skins were shrunk by the skinning and preservation process.

love it.
my wife was out of town and i wanted to show it to them. Didn't realize it was R, but went for it anyways. It was borderline PG if not for the blood, without being gory. No sex and very little profanity compared to an R today.
they loved it and i still loved it. it held up great.
