This movie was non-stop tension from the start.
Opening scene was the greatest opening of any movie I have ever seen. The score built the tension throughout.
The IMAX scenes were grand and look stunning to this day when I watch it on the television.
Ledger killed it, Eckhart killed it, Caine killed it, Bale killed it, Freeman killed it.
About the only weak spot in the movie was Rachel. I think Gyllenhall was a better actor than Holmes, but goodness does she look like a foot.

Worst part of the movie was casting Droopy as the main love interest.
Best acting by Heath was him saying "you are beautiful". Probably what got him the Oscar.

Greatest midnight theater experience of my life, caught it while at the beach at the Destin theater.
fricking packed, every single second Ledger was on screen you never wanted it to end.

The hype that surrounded The Dark Knight was something you don't see often with a movie.
I still remember the feeling when they early released the first 15 minutes on YouTube. It was unreal and the movie lived up to all the hype.

Loved it. Still love it. It had unbelievable hype and still delivered. Easily my favorite theater experience.

I remember leaving the theatre after seeing it for the first time and talking with my friend about whether Ledger's performance was that good, or did we just perceive it that way because he had died.
Of course, it was confirmed to be an all-around brilliant performance that would have garnered him so much attention had he still been alive, but it's funny how that's where our minds went after seeing it.

Paved the way for shitty marvel / comic book movies to dominate

I just remember watching the opening scene and going... "oh, we're watching Heat aren't we?"

It's a great movie but I try to revisit it as little as possible to preserve that initial feeling I had about it. I've seen it so many times that I've started to pick it apart on recent rewatches.
It's obviously miles better than all of the Affleck movies combined but, I think The Batman has overtaken it as the best "Batman" movie. Bale's performance as Wayne is still unmatched but Batman is the least interesting character in the trilogy. His portrayal of Batman feels like he's pretending to be someone he isn't and it feels weird in retrospect that 2/3 of the trilogy is him trying to not be Batman. We see the inverse of that in The Batman with Pattinson, where his real persona is Batman and he has no interest in being Bruce Wayne. That feels more true to the character and even though some people had issues with the lack of a developed Bruce, I suspect it was a choice for it to be fleshed out in the later movies where he eventually finds value in "pretending" to be Bruce Wayne.
Nolan's persistent use of quick cut away reaction shots, bad fight scenes and expository dialogue cheapen the overall experience. In nearly every scene, the dialogue is just information, explaining what is currently happening or talking like philosophy majors. It works when Joker is doing it because he's a showman and it's central to his character. The problem is if every character talks like a member of parliament during the age of enlightenment, then the Joker's schtick is just another monologue in a movie of monologues. Even the freaking Russian ballet dancer's only lines in the restaurant scene were pontificating about the legality of a masked vigilante and the role of elected officials in a democracy.
Lastly, before this gets longer, I still can't believe they shot 3 entire movies and never once questioned if the voice was a good idea. It's real bad. I also don't think the suit holds up compared to the newer live action versions. There are scenes where it's clearly just a rubber suit. I swear I love this movie.

This was one of the most hyped movies ever and it delivered big time

Had Covid last week and I rewatched all 3 of them and the new Batman.
TDK is the best super hero movie of all time. Batman Begins isn't far behind though.

Batman Begins remains my favorite. I really liked the Batman, it's just the 3rd act is kind of a mess.

TDKR didn’t really feel quite right when I walked out of it and I don’t feel it’s aged anywhere near as well as the first two.
I’ve sort of just blamed Ledger’s death with messing up whatever the script was going to be.
Overall the first two Batman movies in the Nolan universe are my favorites. Great movies.

I hate comic book movies, I can't stand them. But The Dark Knight is a legit badass movie. You need to give it a go.

you're only saying that because Nolan has widely said that it was inspired by Heat

I didn't like it, it wanted to be s suspense/thriller that lacked suspense because you already know going in who was behind it....
It seemed like fan service to the "OMG no one ever shows what a great detective Batman is on screen!!"
didn't really like Pattinson either
