I ride or die with Deep
I don’t think he did rape her. That is sort of the twist. Butcher has been seeking vengeance for rape and he finds out it was consensual. So now is he pissed at the wife too? Will he end up helping homelander in some weird awkward relationship next season?

I just finished the season.

They did a weirdly good job humanizing Homelander.
Who knew raising a living god without human interaction was a bad idea?
They generally did a good job making me hate all the old guard 7 then walking it back.
It does look like they made a significant departure from the source material.

I keep trying to remember where Butcher was told she was raped. We've seen him tell that to Hughie, and we know he's told others...but who told him?
When we saw that flashback with Mallory of her showing him Becca leaving the room with Homelander three hours after entering, Mallory did not tell him she was raped, did she? Becca walked out looking like she was doing the walk of shame. And from what Mallory seemed to say then, Becca left never to be seen again three days later.
So...where did Butcher hear she was raped? Or, did he just convince himself that's what must have happened in order to purely be mad at Homelander and not at his wife? Or worse...did he know she wasn't raped but told the story anyway in order to get people to help with his crusade?

I got that impression from the video. They walked in business like and she walked out a disheveled mess and crying. I could be wrong, but the video was enough to make me think it looked like rape.
ETA: obviously we’re way off the comics at this point but “he” did indeed rape her in the comics.

I don’t remember her crying. Her rushing could be seen as her feeling guilty she cheated or maybe not wanting anyone else to see. Point is we don’t know for sure.
If it was obvious, it would be obvious to Butcher since we know as much as he does on what happened. I think the writers want it to be ambiguous for now so as to cause even more internal conflict for Butcher. Even if he doesn’t believe Homelander, it’s still going to be in the back of his mind that maybe Homelander was right and that his whole crusade might have been started on a lie.

I'm sure he started from a place of not wanting to believe it could be consensual. Then when he saw the tape where his wife seemed disturbed and was assumed to have either killed herself or been disappeared shortly after, that clenched the lack of consent in his mind.

Maybe so, maybe the lady (I forgot her name) that showed Butcher the video of his wife wants revenge. Same way Butcher has been using Huey to exact his perceived revenge

Keep in mind, I'm literally asking...when did Mallory show him the video relative to when Becca disappeared? From the flashback, it seemed like what she was showing him was new info to him. As if until that point, he had no idea what had become of her...as if he had no idea Homelander was even involved. Is that not how everyone else saw it?
Seeing it like that, like Mallory was the first to show him that Homelander and her were together for that long and showing him the way she looked leaving, then it makes you wonder why he assumed either way. Unless Mallory told him something off camera that we're not privy to?
I'm just saying that I bought the rape story 100% after he told Hughie that, but after seeing the video and not hearing Mallory tell him she knew it was rape (or hearing Butcher say Becca told him directly she'd be raped by Homelander) my first reaction was that it wasn't...and that MAYBE Butcher had concocted the rape story in his own mind to justify his crusade against Homelander. After everything we saw Butcher do, it would not be beyond him to have made up that story to help sell it to his guys in order to get them to help.

You are right. The only person that has said that Becca was raped was Butcher. And we don't know if he knows that for sure, or if he just assumed that to be the case due to her actions after they were in the room together.
And the way she acted after leaving the room could also be about her already being able to feel the fetus growing inside of her, not because she was raped.
But something else happened in that room, considering they were in there for 3 hours, and we saw how quickly Homelander lasted with Stillwell. So they were not having sex for 3 hours.
Either way, I'm sure we will find out next season.
Can't wait. Thoroughly enjoyed S1.

We might not have all the evidence.
In the comic, Mallory provided the diary the CIA snagged before Vought which explains how Homelander invaded their hotel room to rape her while he was out for ice or something.
One of Butcher's first scenes is showing Hughie the burn marks the infant put through his arm.
Comic Mallory also had a huge bone to pick with the supes because of the Battle of the Bulge.
We don't know this Mallory's motivation yet. I'm going to assume Vietnam will be the first test of supes on the battlefield here.

There is some middle ground. Again it’s obvious he didn’t rape her in the “old-fashioned hold her down and yeah you get the idea” way. But it’s pretty obvious she didn’t walk in that room thinking “i’ma get me some super dick.”
She was promised something. What it was and from who, no clue because there are so many ways they can go with that, but she was definitely more willing than Starlight - who wasn’t raped and made a choice in the moment thinking she only had two options when she really had multiple, but I’m not going down that road and this sentence is already long enough.
They’ve already started filming season 2 and I really hope they up it to 10 episodes. I’m trying to think of a season of a superhero show I enjoyed more than this one. Daredevil season one was great. Gotham season 2 and 3 were great minus the Fish crap. AoS had a great season 2.
What was funny to me is with each casting I could kind of tell who Amazon wanted to have in the role if money had been no issue for them as well. Not to say the cast was bad or anything, I enjoyed everyone in their role. For instance, with Homelander I kept thinking wow this guy looks a lot like Chris Pine, with Maeve it was Sarah Paulson, The Deep I kept thinking younger Pedro Pascal or Oscar Isaac or even Diego Luna. Just random thoughts.

Loved the show. Wish I hadn't heard of it til closer to season 2. Binged it in 2 days and was blown away by the ending Cheesy and raunchy but I really enjoyed it.

I thought it looked like Chris Pine had a baby with Bradley Cooper.
Had no idea it was Starr from Banshee and I loved that show.
