He had some great short stories…that was one and The Mist was obviously another.

Hot take - King is the single most over rated American author I can think of. Sure, he’s a good world builder, but by no means in his own league. Everything else about his writing is average at best. And yes, he shits the bed on most of his endings. Source - I made myself read through his more popular works and series bc I felt like I was missing out having never been exposed to it. Time spent I wish I could recover.

That's not a hot take, edgelord.

It’s longer than you think.

Not sure if it’s false humility but in the afterwards of You Like It Darker, he said that only two of his stories does he ever think he ever developed out to their true potential.

The Green Mile
Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption

He said it in the midst of talking about his process and is he satisfied with his work and could better writers have done more with his concepts.

I don't know if I agree, but those were the two that ended up being the best put to film.

I always thought IT and Pet Sematary worked pretty well, and honestly I liked Needful Things even if it wasn't a huge success.

I just finished the 2021ish version and thought it was good. I haven’t read the book so that comes from just the entertainment value side.

Yes. Very few of his books/stories are really flawless. Salem's Lot is one of those.

Salem's Lot was fantastic!

I love The Stand and didn't hate the ending. I thought it was fitting. It's pretty much my very favorite book. That's probably because I thinks it's just about as good as Dystopian gets.

The 11/22/1963 ending just fell completely flat for me. Like so many of King's books...it's great till it's time for the ending.

I really did enjoy 11/22/1963. It kept my interest pretty much throughout. I thought the miniseries they did was pretty decent to

The book was so good. The miniseries wasn’t as in depth obviously. The Christine movie was better than the book.

Hollywood screwing up Stephen King stories is the only reason I haven't been going nuts after finding out that they began shooting The Long Walk in July of this year.

The Shining is pretty complete in my opinion. Misery as well.

I liked the movie adaptation of Dreamcatcher, just because they did such a good job of setting the environment and making the aliens creepy as hell.

The remade IT sequel was pretty good too IMO.

i didnt see the sequel, only the first one where they were kids. i thought generally speaking they captured the atmosphere of that portion of the book pretty well, and i thought the kids that were cast were pretty perfect. the decision to switch to the 80s was a rock solid decision too, IMO. but they totally whiffed on Pennywise.

the kids portion of the 90s TV movie was actually much better in my opinion than the modern take on it - it still creeps me out. that cast was really good too. the adult portion of that movie was pretty much hot garbage though (even though the cast wasnt awful).

what IT needs is a proper "prestige" TV treatment that really fleshes out the entire story, just like the book. delve into the history of Derry. the interlude stories about the Black Spot, the Bradley Gang, the Claude Heroux story, the Death of Patrick Hockstetter, the death of Eddie Corcoran, the entire Adrian Mellon Canal Days story could ALL be standalone episodes in themselves, interspersed through the greater tale about the seven kids. Mike Hanlon is a perfect vessel through which you could tell the entire story. it's all just there waiting to be told.

Patrick Hockstetter was in the 2017 movie, but he was pretty much just an extra character. his death is one of the creepiest parts of the entire book!

there's just SO MUCH rich material to use, and to date, it hasnt even been touched. if done correctly, with the right tone (has to be dark and sinister like True Detective S1), it could be an all time great.

I really meant both movies, but worded it poorly. Both movies were good IMO. The advanced in CGI and makeup made the clown much more "scary."

yeah i totally disagree on that. Tim Curry's low tech, low CGI Pennywise was so, so much better. throw THAT Pennywise into the modern movie, and it would have been much better IMO.

Sorry bud, but you don't get to use the "Speak my truth" card here.

You are wrong. Context matters and you are using the wrong term.

Never said ‘my truth’, but I will say it’s my opinion.

And I’m not wrong.

Disagree all you want, doesn’t change anything I said.

I agree that It has a lot of cool scary material leading up to the climax, but "It" still has a really bad let down ending like so much of his work. And take out the children's orgy too please.
