Also, why in the world didn't Chewie go to Leia at the end? They missed a big opportunity there. Instead they went with Rey, who barely knew him. Could have been. Great moment between Chewie and Leia.

Yeah, that's a true flaw in the film. Only part where I don't think the character actions make sense.

I agree, but Chewie didn't look to be celebrating like everyone else. He just kind of looked to be in shock.

I wasn't saying he was acting happy, he just kind of walked off. They just missed a great opportunity for a real emotional scene and just kind of cheapened it.

Question.

I watched it again last night. Did Ren make a mistake when he told Rey to let him train her?

It seemed her eyes opened up a little and she understood she really could use the force.

Sure he did. He had her on the ropes. But he made mistakes throughout the final scene. Twice he completely incapacitated Rey by using the force himself, but instead of using it again to win the duel, he resorts to lightsaber fighting. It's his major character flaw that illustrates that he isn't as strong as he thinks he is or wants to be. And it was a good bit of irony that he offered to teach her to use the force while not using it himself.

That duel is up there with both of the Luke vs Vader duels, IMO. Very well done.

Just got out. Was Luke standing in front of a grave? Jagged rocks were all around, but the one he was standing in front of looked like a Cross that was tilted up a bit. Could be Rey's mom maybe. Anyone else notice that?

Do Jedi get married? Or even get some? I would assume there's some sort vow of celibacy with being one.

Not supposed to but Vader did. Luke could have had a weak moment. Who knows.

Luke seems like he would have been more disciplined in that area, especially if he had started training Jedi. Anakin was constantly pushing back against what the Jedi stood for.

Not saying that he is Rey's father just more curious if anyone else thought he may have been standing in front of some sort of marker. It caught my eye when Rey approached Luke but you could see it in the panorama shot at the very end as well.

At least. I can't get enough. When the blue ray comes out I'll watch it 500 times.

Luke was probably never taught that tenant. That was more of an old republic council thing.

Did anybody else here catch how they reworked(edited from Ep 4) Alec Guinness's voice to say, "Rey" while Rey was having that flashback inside that temple? Then you hear Ewan McGregor's voice say, "Rey, you've taken your first step" -or something to that effect.
Didn't hear this last Thursday, but saw it again yesterday, and I caught it.

Just got out of seeing it for the first time. I did catch that. I knew others would too, but it was tough to catch in a first viewing. Kinda surprised I did. I somewhat heard Ewan, but it was muffled. Couldn't tell what was said.

My question is. Why would Obi-Wan call to her in both of his voices? Or were they after-images of him, at both points in time, imprinted on the lightsaber through the power of Vader and Luke?

That scene was intended to show more than just Finn's emotional distress over slaughtering a bunch of villagers. He's force sensitive. Kylo felt it. You don't need to be a Jedi Knight to wield a light saber, but you have to be at least force sensitive in order to duel with someone like Ren, and hold your own. Even though Kylo was hurt and needed more training, he's still powerful enough to murk some yuppie who can swing a light saber. Deal with it.

My biggest question about the movie is why make a planet sized weapon that devours suns? I get the whole super powerful thing but then you have to move the whole fricking planet to another sun and I am sure that it can't travel at light speed being that size. Did they just build it in a system that have tons of suns that they could devour? And why does the sun have to be completely devoured? What if it were a really big sun and they just needed half of it to fire and destroy a few planets?

I am sure it have been discussed, but why did Rey hug Leia at all? She has no knowledge that Han and Leia were a thing and had never met her up to that point had she?

Overall I liked the movie and they hit on nearly everything I wanted to see but missed on some timing things. I thought they should have held off revealing Kylo Ren's identity, possibly all the way until he removed his helmet on the cat walk.

I thought Ren was an awesome villain and I'm glad they stopped the one and done villains that they rotated in the three prequels.

I was underwhelmed. Felt basically like a remake of A New Hope.

I liked it. But Damn. I half expect the next one to just be a remake of The Empire Strikes back. Felt less like a reboot than just a modern take on the same movie.

Luke gets to basically make all the rules now regarding Jedi. In the EU, he allowed any Jedi to get married and was himself married with a son, named Ben. Now, the EU is not canon but they clearly cherry-picked since Han and Leia's son became a powerful Sith Lord beyond redemption in the EU (killed by his twin, ultimately). Also, Luke's son was Ben, named after Ben Kenobi, so they obviously took some elements from the EU. I'm guessing Luke thought it was appropriate for Jedi to carry out their duty to compassion and love to its fullest by actually marrying or at least having a partner.

Ren also felt Han Solo land on the base, but Han wasn't force sensitive. Finn did not hold his own against Ren. He got his arse kicked. Ren was toying with him the whole time.
