We tried to suffer through these when it was announced that a new doctor was coming, then immediately stopped when they announced he would be black. That made it obvious the writing would never get better and they were going to just keeping hoping there are enough woke people in the world to keep the show alive.

I did try to watch that show on several occasions and just couldn't make it through a single episode.

For those that enjoy it-------------------have my share. And it's not because it's a British show. I have, and do enjoy quite a few of them over the years, but mostly comedies.

Thanks for all the responses, I think I will give it a shot starting from the beginning of the original.

Not all episodes are available, they were destroyed or lost by the BBC. 90 something episodes missing.

David Tennant was incredible as the Dr. Matt Smith would have been the best Dr if he didn’t have to follow Tennant. I won’t give too many spoilers. Eccleston is solid.

You can give Capaldi a try but he doesn’t sell it like the previous 3. I have not seen any Whitaker episodes, nor do I plan to. I actually watched the whole 1st season with Disney. I don’t remember much bc it was at like 2 AM with a new baby. I was just starved for content at that point

First fiveish seasons beginning in 2005 are worth a watch.

starting from the beginning of the original.
—Warning, bad idea. The early ones (1960s) have amateur production values. You’ll get bored.

The David Tennant to Matt Smith episodes are the peak.
My all time favorite is “The Day of the Doctor" 50th Anniversary Special, 2013 with both of them.

I wouldn't start with the originals. You are talking about a show from 1960s. The effects are mostly terrible and as mentioned a lot of episodes were destroyed.

You could try starting from Tom Baker but do not judge his series by Robot which is the first episode. That might be one of the worst from the whole Baker era.

Maybe give a few Baker episodes a try. If you aren't feeling it, then jump all the way to the reboot and start with Eccelston.

All this, exactly

If Baker doesn't resonate, that era won't resonate

Kind of? 100% that's what it was. Chibbs, Davies and the actors all said their intent was to gay it up and make the bigots pound sand.

So they did. Now it's dead.

This is a re-occurring theme with any broadly popular property that the Left gets ahold of. They immediately demand that you the audience kowtow to their politics or they'll destroy it to the point of cancellation. And they don't care because they get paid regardless. Their response to "go woke go broke" is "frick you, I got paid upfront, I already have your money. Ha ha, bigots, I'm gonna go buy some abortions".

Replacement and gayifying IPs is on par with Climate Scam politics.

They know it's crap, just like AlGore knows there's no crisis. They don't care! It's meant to control thought and funnel $ in the 'right' direction. Towards THEM & the causes they care about.

Facts or fans be damned.

The regeneration episode for each of the classic doctors is among their respective worsts. The doctor is always incapacitated or debilitated from the regeneration. Not one of them works (though Troughton's regeneration series is lost).

In general, I would bounce around between series and doctor eras, hitting highlights (most of which will be in Baker's and Pertwee's). But you can watch the first dalek episode, then watch watch Genesis of the Daleks. You can watch the first episodes with Cyber Men, and The War Games, then go watch other notable episodes with cyber men and time lords.

Trying to go through any one doctor's episodes in order probably won't be very fun.

Don't they have to do a Dalek and Cyber Man episode every year or two or they lose the rights to them? Seems like I remember seeing that somewhere. Maybe not.

I do remember Andrew Garfield in a Daleks episode...

And Carey Mulligan in Blink... that's one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever. And was VERY Doctor-lite.

I don't agree with that at all. Although he does have to be willing to watch old shows with effects that weren't even good for the time.

If he likes Tom Baker, he will like most of Tom Baker. I never had much of a problem with Peter Davison unless it was an Adric episode.

PBS stopped showing Who for most of Colin Baker and McCoy so I haven't seen enough of them to judge although the few McCoy I saw you could tell the show was coming to an end based on the even worse than normal effects.

If he can't deal with the older show then he should definitely watch in order.

If you're willing to try again and make it through a single episode, consider watching 'Blink'.

I said what I said because every era has bad episodes. Not debatable. There are a lot of Adric episodes. While there are connecting stories, you're not bound by serialization to watch every episode of classic Who in order. Skip lesser series, and if you're an absolute sicko like me, eventually come back around and watch them all. But I think a 60 year old show is a good situation where you should start with the the big deal story arcs, figure out which doctor eras work for you, and generally jump around.

The effects of Doctor Who have always been cheap, and I was not talking about them. I take it as a given that if you are attempting to watch the show, you have accepted that you are not looking for realism.

First season of the revival with Eccleston was my favorite.

He really embodied that crazy almost psychotic kind of Doctor rather than erudite or goofy type of Doctor that is more common.

Jodie Whitaker is legitimately a good actress; I blame the writing and show runner for the show going completely off the rails.

Well, that and their choices for her companions were not great either.
