I know it has a cult following, I have never watched it and want to know it it's worth the time investment.

The reboot is very much worth watching through Tenant. You can go further but you'll eventually wonder why and just lose interest.

ETA Sorry, watch it through Matt Smith. I got them out of order.

The Tennant seasons are the best.

Eccleston>Tenant>Matt Smith>>> Peter Capaldi's first couple seasons.

Then stop watching. It turns to hot garbage.

All you need to know is that he becomes a non-binary doctor of color

I thought Capaldi was a good choice at first but something was lacking. I don't know if it was him or the writing and I never cared enough to re-watch them.

The writing was "iffy" but passable... when he had Clara as a companion. Once she was gone... it turned to less than passable. Then to straight crap.

The writing devolved into cookie-cutter crap with weak plots and weak resolutions. It got to where the only reason I was watching was in the vain hopes of catching Clara in something sexy.

We even gave Whitaker a shot for a few episodes, but

By the time they got to the magical gay black man the foot was on the gas to go off the cliff Thelma & Louise-style and nothing was going to stop them. I really think the guy hated the fans so much he wanted to kill the show.

Elderly Michael Corleone turning into a cartoon in 3 doesn't diminish 1 and 2.

Start with the Tennant episodes. If you can't get into Tennant and Billie Piper, then Who probably isn't for you.

Not only that, Dr Who isn't a GOT story loop that you need to finish. If you loved Godfather 1 and 2 you were going to watch 3 no matter how bad the reviews were.

Dr who doesn't have that obligation, it's more like the original Star Trek. You can pick up Dr Who anywhere and drop it at any time. I've never watched any of the old ones and still thoroughly enjoyed the reboot for the first three doctors.

I gave it a try with the 2005 revival. 9th Doctor with Eccleston. Was hooked for 10+ years. Finally grasped the concept of what the series was based upon. Great stuff

Then upon hearing the chick from Broadchurch (no, not Olivia Coleman ) was going to be the 13th, I tapped out. Never saw another episode.

RIP Doctor Who.

Even before Smith I lost interest with constant use of the sonic magic wand of everything.

I still watched up to Capaldi but the scripts were so god awful and nonsensical I gave up. I tried getting through Capaldi 3 times and never could muster much of an effort.

Tom Baker was the Doctor when I was a kid and I would watch it every Sunday morning on PBS. I enjoyed the reboots too. Tenant, Eccleston, Smith..all great Doctors. Haven't watched it after Matt Smith left.

Yup. This will always be "the Doctor" to me. The early reboots were definitely enjoyable though.

Great up until Chick Doctor

really goes off the rails

Kind of became a "to own the chuds" story of the week from then up until cancellation

Kind of? 100% that's what it was. Chibbs, Davies and the actors all said their intent was to gay it up and make the bigots pound sand.

So they did. Now it's dead.

Davies: We want to own the chuds

few years later

Davies: Where did our audience go?

Producers: You owned them.

Davies: We didn't need them, damn bigots

Producers: Turns out, they were the primary audience.

Davies: But. . .

Producers: Your services are no longer required

Chuds: *snicker*
