Highly recommend the books. Nothing ground breaking but easy, entertaining reading

Are the books pretty good? Might pick them up

Howey’s prose isn’t the best, but he has his moments. He’s great at world-building, though.

A worthy quest. I got caught up this morning.

Anyone else have issues with Apple + freezing up and losing audio more than any other streaming service?

Seems like his character is meant to be unlikeable, so you’re good.

Yep. Wondering who in the silo noticed it.

It looked like a few did, and were looking around to see who else noticed, particularly that one lady.

My wife who hasn’t read the books suspects the outside is good and green, and the people are being lied to because they have some important job, or maybe it’s an experiment.

She noticed and pointed out that the fact that they carried each other’s water up the stairs, and why it might be important. Good pickup.

Please No Book Spoilers, as many of us are nonreaders (aka, Hodors) including myself. And I would agree with your wife that the episodes so far are making it seem like the outside is safe, without any confirmation one way or the other.

Not sure what a Hodor is, but I don’t want to give away spoilers. Just giving the perspective of a nonreader.

The way you give the perspective, being a reader yourself, can give away information about the books. There have been many battles fought on this board between readers and nonreaders, with many posters being banned for posting spoilers. It goes back to the first season of Game Of Thrones, with the nonreaders being labeled Hodors and the readers Maesters. This TD Movie/TV Board history lesson is now concluded.

Yeah, I’m having to be very mindful when I post about this show. I think this is the first show thread where I have actually read the source material.

Why couldn’t the generator just run without one blade?

Seems like it would still run fine with a thousand other blades but the one....

Or shut down for 30 mins to remove the blade, release the pressure and fix the blade, shut the generator down for another 30 minutes to put it back?

. Guessing the rotor would have been very unbalanced and would have broken.

Pretty sure this would work. That whole sequence was really dumb, fake drama. Otherwise, this show is pretty good.

The idea that a machine can never be shut down or the entire system will blow is laughable. If one blade can wear, all others will do too, in time.

Seems they need to invest in a system to bypass the steam.

Did anyone else catch the "window" glitch when the power went out? The outside view turned green for a quick second.

Just saw a few posts about it on the last page.

I thought they explained this pretty well with the whole spinning top scene. Removing a blade will throw the shaft out of balance, leading to more vibration.

This would have made more sense. You would think that a missing blade would still be better over the short term than a blade that’s actually striking the case.

Better question, though, is why there’s no other way to relieve the steam pressure - especially if the only valve they can use to block flow for maintenance is incapable of holding for any extended period of time. I guess the ‘Founders’ weren’t up to speed on their PSM standards.

All of that being said, I don’t think it really matters. The point was that they had to kill power to fix the generator, which they did.

They have added quite a bit that was not in the books so far (the character George, going down below and seeing the excavator, referencing a tunnel). All of these are improvements so far. In the books when the generator is shut down for repair, they just shut it down and repair it without a lot of drama.

Silo (Apple TV+) Season Long Thread (No Book Spoilers)

You're new, so you probably don't know that tons of people have been banned over the years for posting spoilers. It's kind of a big deal on the M/TV Board Just don't post about the book, it's right there in the thread title, it's not that hard to do.

I missed it and the wifey caught it. Had to rewind it to see it. I definitely think numerous people in there noticed it. There were quite a few looking like they wanted to say something but weren't sure if they should or not.

As someone who’s been involved in numerous turnarounds, that generator takedown sequence made my skin itch. The amount of times you’d prep and rehearse and drill something like that would make a Navy Seals operation look like a neighborhood play

And as others said, you’d do it in phases. You’d take it apart, identify the problem, put it back together, prep how you’d solve it, drill the fix, etc, etc, etc, but that doesn’t make for a great episode ha

On the green screen thing when the power went out, I can’t imagine that was supposed to be anything other than just something the screen shows when it turns off. Something that obvious seems like an impossibly duh thing that every single person would see and borderline be incapable of missing

I hope it’s not that clear

The generator part was so drawn out and cheesy! That was a filler episode.

I saw the green screen glitch, I wasn’t able to see whether or not the bodies were still there in full color, anyone catch that?
