ay what you will about Mad Mel Gibson, he's a driven, febrile artist, and there isn't a second in his war film Hacksaw Ridge - not even the ones that should register as clichés - that doesn't burn with his peculiar intensity.

A bluntly effective faith-and-flag war drama, the true story of a remarkable hero with a knot of moral tension at its center.

The result, though corny at times, treads close to madness and majesty alike, and nobody but Gibson could have made it.

Huh...now I am genuinely surprised by this. The previews were bad + Gibson hatred.

Apparently, it is a pretty moving film. I'm going to see it this weekend. I rarely see movies on opening weekend, and I'm not very religious.

I plan on doing this just to support Gibson. His storytelling has a place in Hollywood. Need more movies like the ones he can create.

I'm sure the movie is good but I really don't have any desire to see it. Comes across as too "touchy-feely/we can solve all our problems with a hug and a cup of hot cocoa".

Its a shame they're releasing this opposite Dr Strange. Hopefully people still go see it.

There really needs to be a Comedy Central Roast of Mel Gibson. Can't think of a more deserving person whose life needs to be honored, celebrated, and torn apart like Mel Gibson.

There would be a good chance that Mel would kill everyone in the room though

Do you really think this guy's story is not one that deserves to be told?

The movie hasn't even hit theaters yet. Rottentomatoes is fluffing reviews to stoke interest. It will be another shitty mel gibson bombshell (pun intended).

Yeah, I don't see Mel Gibson making a movie like that. A guy who rescues 75 men in WWII who refuses to arm himself had to have balls of steel and deserves to have his story told. That's like a Bill Brasky story, and this actually happened.

Of course it does. Doesn't mean I'm going to see it, though.

Mel Gibson has yet to make a bad movie. Starred in a few, sure, but anytime he gets behind the camera, he puts his all into it. His last movie was "Apocalypto", which I think is the greatest chase movie ever made.
