re: Rotten Tomatoes Last Jedi bot is fake. Scores just suck on their own.

I just don't see where they can go with this without heavy suspension of disbelief. It seems like the First Order and the Resistance effectively wiped each other out. I mean who cares where they take it from here, and that's the most damning thing you can say about it.
A 150 minute battle scene between Rey and Kylo Ren.

So 99% of the resistance including nearly every single influential character dying is inconsequential?
Yes. The Resistance and First Order effectively wiped each other out. I don't see why I should care anymore. This should be the final film, not the middle.

Poe's rise to leadership of the resistance is inconsequential?
Poe's rise to leadership only happens because he happens to get everyone around him killed to where he's the last guy standing. He is essentially Zapp Brannigan.

And Kylo Ren has lost twice to Rey. Why should I care? Do I really think this guy is going to kill her?

Critics aren't fanboys who will bitch and moan about every single little problem.
The "fanboys" were the ones who left out the movies during the prequels and were singing the praises of how good the movies were until time set in and they realize they really weren't that good. The fact these "fanboys" who love anything and everything Star Wars come out of this movie hating it instantly is a clear indication they fricked this movie up. What they did to the character of Luke Skywalker was character assassination, clear and simple. It would be like having Starlord in the next GotG movie be this super serious character who broods the whole movie and doesn't have a sense of humor. You'd probably hail it as some great achievement for doing something new and different, but it would be a terrible choice.

Yeah, critics are just unbiased observers

That's my point. People can be mad now but we don't know where it's going. The next movie could connect the dots and people won't be so harsh on 8 because it actually meant something. It just may not seem like it now to a lot of people.
Abrams has stated that 9 will connect every single SW movie into one.

Just imagine if The Force Awakens carried on for one more minute to where we see Rey hand him his lightsaber and for him to throw it over his shoulder. The audience would be outraged, boo, and have a similar audience rating on RT. There's no way in hell JJ had that in mind at the end scene.
I believe I read somewhere that JJ Abrams filmed that scene for Rian Johnson. They've talked about how they actively worked together to make the transition from directors.

Yeah, Poe's rise to second-in-command of a group of 12 after helping to get everybody else killed isn't exactly a huge emotional win for everybody.

Kylo Ren lost to Rey once. And Kylo Ren had just killed his father so his emotions were holding him back.
The 2nd time was a draw.
He totally could kill her.

Honestly I think this is about where this one belongs. Perhaps a few points lower.

I mean yeah, it's probably my favorite of the prequels. I just went off of differences between audience and critic scores.

Well, then JJ totally misinterpreted what Johnson wanted out of it.

Ren makes 2 choices, kills snoke chooses power over rey...but he doesn’t make a change. He’s the same character
Wrong. His turn to the dark side is complete. The conflict within him is resolved.

Same with rey
Wrong. She needed someone to show her her place in all this. She knows her place in all this now.
quote:
So basically Poe got a promotion, everything behind that made no sense and he’s the same flat boring character.
Difference of opinion. I like Poe and find him to be a very interesting character.
quote:
Finn is the same flat boring character. Rose, who gives a frick about rose?
Agree. Finn wasn't boring in TFA, but he was in TLJ. And Rose is Jar Jar but worse. Jar Jar at least had being an alien that talked funny as an excuse. Rose has none.

The larger backdrop to the story (rebels/empire) remains unchanged. The dynamics are still the same.
Well no shite Sherlock. That's the arc of the entire 3rd trilogy.
quote:
Nothing happened in this movie but they so desperately try to convince you that something did happen
Wrong. The resistance is now small enough to fit on the Falcon. Rey, Kylo, and Poe had some pretty good character development. Snoke died. Finn has a girlfriend?
quote:
The one scene really exemplifies the whole movie...leia gets blown up, wait no she’s alive and flies back to the ship right back where she started
She is the daughter of Force Jesus. It was cheesy, but still. Force Jesus.

You don't think Kylo is still conflicted? He let his mom live and had a very emotional response to seeing Luke. He's a little kid who doesn't know what he really wants.
Your insights are mind-boggling

If that's fact, then you're saying he has to die and that Rey seeing good in him was wrong.
If that's fact, then her arc is done right? No more growing and learning about her past. Nothing.
Finn was the dumbest character in TFA. And me laughing at you for thinking he wasn't boring is completely justified.
The resistance is not small. The whole point of the ending was to show that it was spread across the galaxy. How did Poe develop? You think he's going to suddenly fall in line with all authority now?

Not anymore. He knows exactly what he wants as soon as he killed Snoke.
