The story is light vs dark.

Jedi vs Sith

Rebellion vs First Order

Good vs Evil

you can't even describe what happens other than throwing out these eye rolling, nausea inducing platitudes like "light vs. dark" and then rephrase it 3 different ways

The movie starts with the rebellion running for their lives and ends with the rebellion running for their lives. But the animals were freed so it’s worth it.

And most of them died.

And Rey and Kylo Den had some pretty serious development.

Animals were freed, but the slave children were not. Not sure that should have been the way it worked it.

Kylo's inner struggle (from killing his Dad) is over. He is full bad. And the Supreme Leader.

Rey knows her role in the story now. She is a Jedi now, or at least the closest thing to it. Plus she has the ancient texts.

What's the evidence of this? He killed Snoke so now he's full dark side?

So she was an powerful untrained force user before the movie, and she remains a powerful untrained force user after the movie. Now THAT is some serious character development.

Then Jedi training is useless. He training was 2 scenes and she cannot resist the dark side. Part of being a Jedi is resisting the Darkside. Yoda instructed Luke to go to the dark place on Degoba. She went running for it as soon as she could....TWICE.

She is no Jedi or even close.

She knows how to move rocks now. So she's a Jedi.

On top of that, they showed conflict at the end when he picked up the gold dice before they vanished.

They were all over the place.

There is zero evidence that he's full dark side now.

ETA: Hell, there was more evidence of him going full dark side after TFA.

There is more evidence in the movie that he is more conflicted and regrets killing his father.

Also, seeing the dice is the first evidence he received that his mother is still alive.

so yay, a bunch of people in the background we don't care about died because a couple of menopausal chicks refused to be mansplained to

I don't remember anyone telling me that last star trek was great because captain kirk got all of the no named, faceless enlisted crew members killed. they didn't matter.

the resistance begins the movie ill equipped and running from the first order and the resistance ends the movie by being ill equipped and running from the first order...they ran out of gas, so I guess that's something.

Rey
rey went from what to what? she ends the movie the same as she began the movie. having not been trained by luke skywalker

Kylo
I guess something happened. he went from #2/2B in command to being #1 in command after he kills that guy who had a grand total of 3 minutes of screen time in both movies mostly as a hologram...and he's still emo ren.

Rian Johnson really adds to the Star Wars universe in creative and unexpected ways. Audiences are treated to porgs, a cross between a hamster and a penguin, that are just there, and even establishes that ships in the Star Wars galaxy can run out fo fuel. I don't know about you, but i'm really excited to see the first product placement in franchise history when Rey gasses up the Falcon at an intergalactic 7/11 while crushing a slushee. Johnson doesn't end the surprises there as he delivers the first movie in which nothing of consequence at all happens. The standout from the film, which may be too smart for movie going audiences, is when we're treated to a lightsaber duel between Luke Skywalker dressed like Captain Picard and the fiendish Kylo Ren only to discover that it didn't actually happen.

5/5, must see
