Kasden only wrote one movie in the OT.

You sure about that

empire is a real head scratcher because the general ideas are surely lucas' but how much were they fine tuned? leigh bracket who co wrote the big sleep in like 1945 died and they say they discarded most of her treatment...but han solo talks a lot like Humphrey bogart in space. How much did Lawrence kasdan really impact it because I have to be honest, he wrote raiders, but the dialogue isn't all that great. and kershner, by all accounts a meticulous director who really was obsessed with visual expression of character...even han in ice had to be redone because han solo wouldn't just sit there while he froze, he'd fight. probably had something to do with his background in art. then there's gary kurtz, who did 2nd unit work, special effects work, had a big impact on the look of the movie.
star wars and empire were both large collaborative efforts, and I think that was a big reason why they're so good. empire is just fricking perfect.

yeah after we're told and before he's given a reason to be conflicted...again
what an awful idea to rehash your antagonist facing temptation AGAIN while having your protagonist then reverse tempted, but nothing happened prior to that to make me really question whether she'd agree
the audience questions it because Johnson is just trying to shock again and again and be unpredictable for the sake of it. cheap, this movie is cheap

He has a credit to ROTJ but wasn't the force behind it like he was ESB. It was more of a adviser role. Lucas changed a lot during production. He pretty much directed the movie even though it's credited to Richard Marquand
ESB was all Kasden and Kershner stayed true to the script.

100% agree
Half in the bag really made sense there. Disney handed the future of the Star Wars IP to just some dude with full writing and directing autonomy. Johnson was in no way qualified for that and he proved his incompetence in a big way

with full writing and directing autonomy
Johnson is a hack who couldn't have cared less about this movie. it's just that the genre is more prone to bad ideas since it's a weird space movie about wizards and an invisible force that's also a religion. it's good to have the director and writer challenged internally by other creative people, not studio heads

Maybe not even then.
Giving two different directors and writers complete autonomy over thy first two movies in a trilogy just doesn't make sense.

Agreed. That's painfully obvious from every interview he's put out.

True. Maybe Star Wars isn’t well suited to assembly line marvel movie making.
I think different directors is fine but the creative team or individual writing the movie should stay mostly intact
Kershner just directed empire...but he really did his own thing with it. And credit to Lucas for really creating unique designs and not relying on all the same ships and creatures from the first

Explain what happened as far a development of the story/universe in TLJ.
A hermit that was disconnected with the universe died?
You can’t even say the state of the Republic is part of it because that plot line happened last movie and nothing happened on screen.
The movie started with a Resistence that couldn’t go one one one against the First Order, and that’s where the movie ended.

More and more explanation articles popping up for the RT audience score
Not one explanation article for the RT critics score
I suspect these stupid articles are outsourced Disney marketing to combat the negative word of mouth. I also totally believe they paid or strong armed critics

Audience score down to 54%. It was 56% yesterday.
My theory is fanboys are being nicer to it than general audiences who won’t be blinded by the brand name.

You don’t need a bot to create thousands of accounts on your own and spam the review site.

Not that the movie is bad?
This is Ghostbusters all over again.
“The people who dislike the movie are wrong for disliking the movie.”
That is dumb.
