It's the best Star Wars movie since the original trilogy.

100%. I did like Solo as well, but not nearly as much.

The payoff for Rogue One is the last 5 minutes with Vader wrecking shop in the effort to getting the plans back.

What made Rogue One unique, for me at least, is that it moved away from the fun themes and scenes that pretty much all other Star wars movies were entwined with. Rogue One was gritty, much more of a war movie set in the Star Wars universe than a "Star Wars movie".
Also, it was a suicide mission that turned out to be... a suicide mission. No Deus ex Machina where everyone comes out smiling.

I love the movie. Watched at the airport the other day.
On my 20th rewatch, I couldn't help to think that it probably executed the "Disney multicultural actor thing" without it being so obvious.
We have likeable and compelling characters from all races in the movie yet we do not really think about it because the actors were perfectly cast and the story flowed naturally.

My favorite outside of Empire

It's boring and the characters are shallow and unlikeable. They tried to make an edgy, Christopher Nolan Star Wars movie, and it failed miserably. They actually succeeded in making a boring Star Wars movie. That's a superhuman accomplishment.

Solo was a fun flick , much better than the last two SWs

Couldn't invest in the characters. If it were a tv series or trilogy and we got to know them more then maybe that final scene on the beach would have been more powerful. Maybe tv series have spoiled me by developing characters and making me care for them if something happens to them like GTA and TWD

Solo, on the other hand, is just okay. It’s a competent film, but it doesn’t have anywhere near the emotional weight of Rogue One or even ROTS.
I think that's because you basically know that almost everyone in the story lives since it's a prequel. So no matter what situations they get themselves into, you know they're gonna make it. I think that hurts it a little, at least in terms of "emotional appeal." But man, I just thought Solo was fun as hell.

3rd or 4th best depending on where you put Jedi.
Never saw solo so no opinion.
The rest don't need a ranking.
Prequels at least allowed better content outside of the films. So even though they're just as aggressively bad as the Sequels at least some good came from it. But they were the slope where Lucas started getting weird with the OT edits.

It's ok. The beginning is pretty boring, and Saw Gerrera is one of the worst characters I've ever seen.
I put it behind the OT and ROTS

you can start the movie right at the start of the third act and not be remotely confused on what is going on.
This isn't true. You wouldn't know who the main character is, and why that's important; how the rebels knew to go to Scarif, or why it's important that they go there.
The movie did miss the mark on character development though. I didn't really care too much when they ended up dying.

You just know they received a mission. Like really nothing in the first two acts is essential to know. Seriously, you could have 30 minute special starting from when they get back to Yavin 4 and I don’t think you’d be confused.

You would miss the fact that the death star was designed by Jyn’s father who purposely sabotaged it after being forced to work on the project against his will. You’d miss the whole father/daughter dynamic at the heart of the story.
You would miss learning about how the death star’s laser was powered. You’d miss the awesome ambush scene in Fallujah, I mean Jedha.
You would miss Cassian Andor’s moral dilemma over whether to follow his orders and assassinate Galen or trust Jyn.

But none of this is actually essential. It’s more fun facts.

That’s how they knew to go to Scariff and where the plans would be. It’s critical character development. I guess the first half of empire didn’t matter either.

I’ll say that the first act of Jedi had this problem and was stand alone from the rest of the film. Not Empire though.
